Run over 1,100 metres, the Schillaci Stakes is a Group 2 race taking place at Caulfield Racecourse. With a $300,000 prize purse, it attracts a quality line-up of sprinters.
Starting out as a Principal Race, this race has held Group 2 status since 1979.
This Schillaci Stakes serves as a good lead up for the Champions Sprint, which takes place at Flemington Racecourse during the coveted Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The event is recently served as a key lead-up into the following week’s The Everest at Royal Randwick. In 2019 the Schillaci Stakes winner Trekking went on to run third in that year’s The Everest results and second in the Winners Stakes named in honour of the previous season’s The Everest champ Redzel.
The 2023 Schillaci Stakes winner Asfoora travelled to the UK for the following year’s Royal Ascot and won the Group 1 King Charles III.
In 2024 the Schillaci Stakes winning filly Bellatrix Star went on to run second at Flemington on Derby Day in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).
