NBL Round 9 Tips & Preview

NBL Round 9 Tips & Preview

The biggest hit of the Summer isn’t Dance Monkey by Tones and I or anything Dave Warner is doing at the crease.

The biggest hit this Summer is the likes of LaMelo Ball and the highly anticipated clash between in the Sydney Kings and Melbourne United.

Round 9 of the NBL season is upon us and we have your preview and tips coming right at you for six big games this weekend.

CAIRNS TAIPANS v MELBOURNE UNITED
Melbourne United 1-10 @ $2.50

It’s the first of two big weekend road-trips for Melbourne United as they head up North to take on Cairns.

United currently sit third on the NBL ladder and are knocking on the Perth Wildcats door for the second position so they’ll want to make the most of this two-game slate.

Melbourne goes into this away trip the favourite against an inconsistent Cairns but they shouldn’t consider this an easy win.

Cairns doesn’t have much going for them, but they did beat United 90-85 only a month ago.

Expect the Taipans to make it a tough night at the office for Melbourne, but the United boys should be able to get the job done in this one.

NEW ZEALAND BREAKERS vs ILLAWARRA HAWKS
Illawarra Hawks @ $2.25

LaMello Ball featuring the Illawarra Hawks make the trip across the ditch to take on the Breakers this Saturday in what should be a cracking contest.

The Hawks will be up and about after a big overtime win against the Cairns Taipans on Monday night and LaMello Ball just keeps on living up to the hype becoming the youngest NBL player to score a triple-double in their victory.

This game is a bit of a hard one to find an outright winner.

New Zealand has a bit of a reputation on being flat-track bullies and the Hawks have only one away win so far in their 2019-20 campaign.

Both teams look set to occupy the bottom of the table this season, but I can’t help but get on the hype of the LaMello Ball-train so I’m backing the Hawks at the decent price of $2.25

best bet
BRISBANE BULLETS vs SOUTH EAST MELBOURNE PHOENIX
HT/FT South East Melbourne Phoenix / Brisbane Bullets @ $6.50

Both teams started the 2019-20 NBL season on a roll but reality has sunk in and with the losses mounting, this could be one of the games of the round.

The Phoenix took it up to the league leaders the Kings last week, going down by four points but are now on a three-game losing streak.

Both the Bullets and the Phoenix have won one out of their past four matches, so with both teams evenly matched there’s plenty of value in this game market.

The Brisbane Bullets love it at their new home – Nissan Arena (the armoury) with a 3-1 record, but the Phoenix did smash the Bullets when they last met in Round 3 113-93 in Melbourne.

Expect this game to the wire with the Bullets to bring it home in front of their home crowd.

Take the Half Time/Full-Time market with Phoenix up at the main break but the Bullets to win.

Excellent value at the $6.50 price.

SYDNEY KINGS vs MELBOURNE UNITED
Melbourne United (+2.5) Line @ $1.90

The Sydney Kings truly are, Kings of the NBL right now, sitting on top of the table with a 10-1 record.

Since they last played Melbourne United, the Kings have won four-straight but United are also travelling along nicely winning six straight prior to their Friday night game in Cairns (and assuming they win on Friday – Seven wins).

It’s a tough trip to go from Cairns to Sydney on a short-spell for Melbourne United but the market currently favours the Sydney Kings to get the job done.

You won’t find the best value in the head to head market in this match and it could be a multi-killer.

Both teams have managed to hold their opposition for under 100 points in their past three matches, and the line has been set at 2.5

Expect it to be close and happy to take United at the Line in what should be the game of the round.

PERTH WILDCATS vs ADELAIDE 36ERS
Adelaide 36ers Line (+6.5) @ $1.90

Coming off a loss to Cairns at the snake-pit, the Wildcats will be glad to find themselves at the home comforts of RAC Arena as they take on the Adelaide 36ers this Sunday.

The Wildcats, however, do sit second on the ladder but they’ve been hardly convincing in recent performances.

Perth hasn’t lost back-to-back matches since December last year, but the line has been set rather generously at 6.5 and you could expect the 36ers to take it up to Perth on their homecourt.

Happy to take the visitors at the line in this one.
