Another breathtaking week of NBA action has resulted in significant changes from a betting perspective. James Harden has come in even further for MVP, with Giannis and Steph Curry hot on his tails. Milwaukee and Golden State have been the NBA’s two best teams this season and now find themselves atop their respective conferences. Let’s recap the week that was in the NBA, this time in the eyes of the punters.
Another Phenomenal Week by Harden
Despite long-term injuries to Clint Capela and Chris Paul, the stunning play of Shooting Guard James Harden is keeping Houston afloat. The reigning MVP is enjoying astonishing averages of 48.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, 7.6 assists, and 2.6 steals over his last 5 games. He dropped a season-high 57 points against the struggling Grizzlies on Tuesday, only to better it by scoring 58 in an overtime loss to Brooklyn the next game. Whilst we’re unsure how long Harden can keep this up for, he now finds himself the firm favourite to take home MVP at $1.90.
Steph Curry Closing In
Whilst Harden’s form has been fantastic, Steph Curry has been just as impressive on the NBA’s best team. The two-time MVP is averaging an impressive 35.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists over his last 5, shooting 100% from the Free Throw Line and over 50% from 3 in the process. What’s even more impressive is that Golden State has really rounded into form, winning each of their last 7 to sit comfortably atop the West. Although he is currently considered a dark horse for the award at $15, if Houston start to slump, Curry could be in with a solid shot at the award.
San Antonio Closing in on the Southwest Title
Houston’s recent injuries and dip in form has opened up the door for competitors in the Southwest division. San Antonio have proven to be Houston’s toughest division challengers and currently sit just 0.5 games back. They’d have the division lead if not for a disappointing home loss to the Clippers today. This resurgence is in large part due to the stellar play of DeMar DeRozan and improved recent play of LaMarcus Aldridge, who is currently just averaging 21 and 9 on the season. Currently sitting at $4.50 to take out the division, the Spurs definitely look over the odds.
Milwaukee Take the Lead Out East
Improved recent results from Milwaukee have seen them take a 0.5 game lead over Toronto out East. They’ve been statistically the best team in the NBA this season, enjoying an astonishing average plus minus of +10. An easier schedule of late has also helped, winning 6 of their last 7 against mediocre opposition. With a star in Giannis and a well-rounded roster around him, the Bucks have every chance of clinging onto the East’s #1 seed. Throw in their very solid homecourt and they appear solid value to win the Eastern Conference at $4.
Updated ATS Trends
Milwaukee’s improved run of late has given them the best spread record in the league, going 26-16-3 this season. Sacramento have been darlings for punters all year long, covering 6 of 8 to sit 27-18-1. The Spurs, Mavericks, and Nuggets all round out the top 5. The Grizzlies have been a nightmare for punters this year, covering a pathetic 2 of their last 13 games. Washington are a poor 19-26, whilst Cleveland, Toronto, and Golden State round out the bottom 5 ATS. With another huge week of action ahead, these figures are all sure to change at least somewhat.
