Run over 1,100 metres, the Sir John Monash Stakes is a Group 3 race taking place at Caulfield Racecourse in early July each Melbourne Winter Racing Carnival. With a $200,000 prize purse, it attracts its fair share of local and interstate sprinters. 

This race serves as an excellent lead up into the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) back at Caulfield a fortnight later and while a host of races have won both races over their careers, Rubitano (2002) and Recommendation (2024) were the last horses to do the Bletchingly – Sir John Monash Stakes double in the same year.

A weight-for-age-event, the Sir John Monash Stakes has been run and won since 1994 and some of the standout winners include dual champion Super Elegant (2004-05), Blue Diamond hero Reward For Effort (2010) and Voodoo Lad (2018).
