The Gimcrack Stakes is a Group 3 race contested over 1000m at Royal Randwick in late September or early October as part of the bumper Epsom Handicap Day card during the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.
Open only to two-year-old fillies, the Gimcrack Stakes is run at set weights and offers $250,000 in prize money.
Many young fillies are on debut in the Gimcrack Stakes field, which can serve as a nice lead-up into bigger events such as the following January’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
In 2019, Stellar Pauline ran second in the Gimcrack Stakes and also placed second in the 2020 Magic Millions Classic, while the 2022 Gimcrack Stakes winner Platinum Jubilee also was runner-up in the following summer’s Magic Millions Classic results.
The 2023 Gimcrack Stakes winner Manaal franked the form the following autumn with a host of good runs including her Group 1 Inglis Sires’ victory in 2024.
O’Ole (2nd in the 2024 Gimcrack) was the last out of the race to go on and win the following summer’s $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in 2025.

The 2025 Gimcrack Stakes takes place as part of the Epsom Handicap Day card at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday October 4, 2025. The meeting is host to plenty of Group races including three elite level features with the running of the:
- Group 1 $1.5 million Epsom Handicap (1600m),
- Group 1 $750,000 The Metropolitan (2400m), and the
- Group 1 $750,000 Flight Stakes (1600m).
