Tony Gollan’s in-form son of Snitzel, Transatlantic ($2.20F), was far too strong dominating the 2025 Five Diamonds Prelude results at Randwick with a dominant performance to make it back-to-back feature race wins following his Group 1 Toorak Handicap victory in Melbourne the run before. Jockey Tommy Berry controlled the race beautifully, upping the tempo ahead of the turn for home before cruising to the line to finish 2.25 lengths clear of the runner-up General Salute.

The event took place for the first time during the 2022 Sydney Spring Racing Carnival on The Everest Day and is open only to horses aged five-years-old.
In 2023 it moved to its own feature race meeting and takes place on the same date as Melbourne’s Caulfield Cup Day card.
In 2024 the Five Diamonds Prelude joined the Spring Champion Stakes Day line-up on the same date as Melbourne’s Cox Palte Day program and gained Listed status.
It is the key lead-up into the $2 million The Five Diamonds (1800m), which also ran for the first time in 2022 on the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup.
The Five Diamonds Prelude takes place at set weights plus penalties over 1500m and offers the winner a ballot exemption into the Five Diamonds race field.
The inaugural Five Diamonds Prelude winner was the $2.80 favourite Ellsberg coming off a dead-heat win in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m).
Ellsberg went on to become the first horse to complete the Five Diamonds Prelude – Five Diamonds double.
In 2023 Detonator Jack ran second in the Prelude, third in the Five Diamonds result and won the $1 million The Gong at Kembla Grange.
