From 1922, all the way up to the present day, we have every Cox Plate winner listed from past race meets. Included are finishing times, sex, age and the weight each Cox Plate champion carried to victory.

The very first Cox Plate winner was Violoncello who won the inaugural edition in 1922.

The most successful Cox Plate horse in history was four-time hero Winx, the mighty mare winning the race from 2015-18.

Prior to Winx, Kingston Town (1980-82) won the Cox Plate three times.

Rising Fast (1954) is another of the most famous Cox Plate winning horses as he is the only galloper to win the Caulfield Cup – Cox Plate – Melbourne Cup treble in a single season.

The 2020 Cox Plate winner was the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained import Sir Dragonet ridden to victory first-up in Australia by the now four-time winning hoop Glen Boss who sadly died the following spring a week out from his title defense.

The 2021 Cox Plate winner was State Of Rest, the Irish-trained raider hailing from the international stables of dual Melbourne Cup wining trainer Joseph O’Brien.

The 2022 Cox Plate winner was the James Cummings-trained Anamoe who atoned for his close second the year before to record an impressive victory as the $2.40 favourite in betting.

The 2023 Cox Plate winner was the Danny Shum-trained Hong Kong raider Romantic Warrior ($3.60F) who saluted for the punters by a nose right on the line after being ridden to victory by last year’s winning hoop James McDonald.

The 2024 Cox Plate winner was the Chris Waller-trained Via Sistina ($5) who made history as the 15th mare to salute when celebrating her fifth Group 1 by a historic eight-lengths to hand Waller his fifth Cox Plate trophy. Jockey James McDonald rode his third straight Cox Plate champion in his 100th career Group 1 success.

Via Sistina goes down as one of the best Cox Plate winners setting a new race record of 2 minutes 01.07 seconds.
