Coolmore Stud Stakes
Looking for this year’s Coolmore Stud Stakes betting tips, field and form guide? The expert tipsters at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.
The Coolmore Stud Stakes is a Group 1 sprint down the iconic Flemington ‘Straight Six’ track held at HQ on the opening day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival – Victoria Derby Day.
Derby Day runs on the Saturday prior to the Melbourne Cup, which runs on the first Tuesday of November annually, so the Coolmore Stud Stakes date is traditionally either the last Saturday in October or first of November.
Offering $2 million in prize money and registered as the Ascot Vale Stakes, the Coolmore Stud Stakes is open only to three-year-olds and is run at set weights. It was originally a juveniles’ race for two-year-olds up until 1969 when Vain won the first edition of the race for three-year-olds.
Any three-year-olds that contested Sydney’s $20 million The Everest race earlier in the spring may head south for a shot at the Coolmore Stud Stakes.
Plenty of star youngsters have won the Coolmore Stud Stakes including in recent years Sepoy (2011) and Sunlight (2018).
