Concorde Stakes
Looking for this year’s top Concorde Stakes betting odds, tips and form guide? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.
The Concorde Stakes is a Group 3 short-distance sprint race held over 1000m at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Chelmsford Stakes Day in early September each Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.
A set weights plus penalties event the Concorde Stakes runs alongside three other Group races at the meeting headlined by the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes.
The race was first conducted in 1999 and has grown notably in prestige and importance now serving as a key early lead-up into the world’s richest turf race – the $20 million The Everest (1200m) held back at the track in October.
The Concorde Stakes prize money was boosted to $1 million ahead of the 2023 edition making it one of the richest Group 3 races in the world.
In 2017 Redzel made history winning the opening edition of The Everest race on the back of an earlier win in the Concorde Stakes. The champion completed the same Concorde Stakes – The Everest double in 2018 and won a third Concorde Stakes title in 2019.
The likely next-up option for horses out of the Concorde Stakes field is the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) also held at Randwick a fortnight later. Redzel (2017) was the last sprinter to do the Concorde Stakes – The Shorts double.
In 2020 the Concorde Stakes winner Gytrash ran a next-up third in The Everest results before winning that spring’s Winners Stakes at Rosehill.
Nature Strip finally won the Concorde Stakes as the odds-on favourite in 2021 at his third attempt from the Chris Waller stable. Nature Strip went on to win that year’s The Everest and the VRC Sprint Classic in Melbourne, and further franked the form with his international success taking out the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2022.
A new Concorde Stakes race record was set in 2024 by the Ciaron Maher-trained mare I Am Me who won in 55.97 seconds.

Which Horse Will Win The Concorde Stakes in 2024?
The best way to pick which horse will win the Concorde Stakes in 2024 is to take into account their lead-up spring racing form, assess the barriers, and consider the weight each horse will carry.
Additional factors to consider when picking the Concorde Stakes winner include:
- Short-Distance Specialists – The 1000m of the Concorde Stakes ensures only the horses with the best turn of foot win with even star 1200m sprinters finding the distance too short to perform at their best.
- The Everest Climb – Looking for gallopers out of the previous year’s The Everest results can prove key.
Concorde Stakes Favourites 2024
