The time-honoured Caulfield Guineas was first run in 1881 and the inaugural champion was Wheatear.

In 1893 Patron won the Caulfield Guineas one year prior to his Melbourne Cup triumph as a four-year-old.

In 1919 Artilleryman completed the Caulfield Guineas – Melbourne Cup double as a three-year-old.

The 1937 Caulfield Guineas winner Ajax would go on to become a 14-time Group 1 winner and be inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.

There were two Caulfield Guineas winners in 1945 when Royal Gem and Attley dead-heated for first.

Hydrogen won the 1951 Caulfield Guineas before going on to claim two Cox Plate trophies in 1952 and 1953 among many other good races.

Surround (1976) is the Caulfield Guineas winning filly.

The late Bart Cummings holds the training record having prepared five Caulfield Guineas winners with Storm Queen (1966), Kenmark (1974), Alfa (1996), God’s Own (2006) and Wonderful World (2007).

The latest three-year-olds to complete the Caulfield Guineas – Victoria Derby double are Mahogany (1993) and Helenus (2002).

Earlier in 1984 Red Anchor won the Caulfield Guineas, Cox Plate and Victoria Derby treble.

The longest-priced Caulfield Guineas winners throughout history were Mighty Boss was ($101 in 2017) and Abaridy was ($251 in 1986).

In 2000 Skalato was originally first past the post but lost the event after a subsequent positive swab. Show A Heart was officially declared that year’s Caulfield Guineas winner.

In 2010 the Caulfield Guineas Starspangledbanner would go on to win that year’s Golden Jubilee Stakes in the UK.

The 2021 Caulfield Guineas winner Anamoe went on to run second next-up in a photo-finish Cox Plate result.

The 2022 Caulfield Guineas winner Golden Mile also saluted for the punters handing the Godolphin stable, trainer James Cummings and jockey James McDonald back-to-back victories in the event.

The 2023 Caulfield Guineas winner was the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Griff who shifted late but came away protest-free to salute by 1.75 lengths in an upset at 30/1 off a Stutt Stakes win at The Valley.

The 2024 Caulfield Guineas was the Chris Waller-trained Private Life ($13) who improved on a Prelude fourth to score a narrow upset in a thrilling finish over the mile.
