For All Seasons was the inaugural Shannon Stakes winner in 1978 when the event ran as the Shannon Quality Handicap (1978 – 1997).

Never Quit (1987, 1988) was the first, and to date only, dual Shannon Stakes champion.

Noire (201) was the last Shannon Stakes winning mare.

Moral Victory holds the current Shannon Stakes race record winning over 1500m in 2016 in a time of 1 minute 28:06 seconds.

Dalmacia (1982) remains the only galloper to date to complete the Shannon Stakes – Group 1 Epsom Handicap spring race double.

The 2023 Shannon Stakes winner was the Matthew Dunn-trained Cepheus ($4.20) who came up the inside late to post a stylish victory ahead of his November 7th target in Sydney’s $3 million The Big Dance race.

The 2024 Shannon Stakes winner was Bjorn Baker’s The Five Diamonds-bound five-year-old, Amor Victorious ($8.50), who was ridden to victory by Tyler Schiller despite a saddle slip.

The 2025 Shannon Stakes winner was seven-year-old Awtaad gelding Waterford ($7) for trainer Chris Waller with jockey James McDonald aboard on 56kg to win by 2.29 lengths on a Good (4) track in a time of 1:28.07.

The 2026 Shannon Stakes winner was four-year-old Written Tycoon entire Skyhook at odds-on $1.50 favouritism off a lead-up Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes win for trainers Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou with jockey Kerrin McEvoy aboard on 58kg from barrier 1 to beat Estadio Mestalla home by 2.9 lengths in a time of 1:28.58 on a Good (4) track.
