We have Eurythmic Stakes tips and predictions for the Group 3 1400m race at Ascot on Saturday.
Eurythmic Stakes odds have King of Light as the current favourite, as he looks to extend his winning record.
KING OF LIGHT (10) is a very nice horse in the making after posting six wins from his first seven starts. He didn’t fire in his last run last preparation, but he bounced back with a good win at Belmont last start when beating Snowdome.
The 4YO gelding has more ability than most horses in this race, and although we’re not sure what went wrong behind Cosmic Crusader at Group 1 level at Ascot, it looks as though he has come through the spell with flying colours.
He looks like a runner who could contest big feature races in Melbourne next year, and this will be a good test to pass on Saturday. He’s closing in on an odds-on price, and we expect his odds to firm on race day.
Lucy Fiore will need to produce a good ride from out wide, but King of Light’s class should take him close.
| 3. King Of Light (10) J: Lucy Fiore 58.5kg 110×1 T: Daniel Morton | |||
| Returns from a two-month let-up after winning the Listed Idyllic Prince (Goodwood Sprint) at Belmont Park by a length and a half first-up, travelling like the odds-on favourite and scoring with something in hand. Barrier 10 asks him to do it properly, but he is six from seven overall, unbeaten around 1400m and already a multiple winner at this track. Opts to stay in WA rather than go east, and he can bring up back-to-back wins despite being 56 days between runs. | |||
Our Eurythmic Stakes predictions include the impressive WESTERN EMPIRE (11), who had three runs last campaign for three wins.
The 9YO might be getting long in the tooth, but he’s still running at an elite level, and he has over $3.6 million in the bank, so he’s an impressive thoroughbred with more wins to come at this level.
He won over 1400m, 1600m, and 2000m last prep, which is a great effort, and the only concern is that the 1400m fresh up this time around against a quality field could catch him out. However, he’s all class, and it would be a mistake to leave him out.
| 1. Western Empire (11) J: Jason Lyon 59.5kg x111x T: Jason Pateman | |||
| Returns from a five-month break after ending last campaign with G3 wins in the Strickland Stakes and Hyperion Stakes at Belmont Park, beating Let’s Galahvant by a length and a half most recently as a dominant favourite. His record at this track and distance is strong, and the latest trial second at Lark Hill adds readiness. Unbeaten last campaign and while he has drawn out, his trials say he can play a leading role. | |||
Our Eurythmic Stakes tips include VATICAN STORM (9) to figure in the finish at double-figure odds.
The 4YO gelding is being thrown into the deep end here against a quality field, but he has three wins from seven starts, and he acquitted himself well against some strong fields when last in work.
The son of Playing God will need to improve 1-2 lengths to beat the favourite, but with the right run from barrier 9, he could get a nice drag into the race and hit the line with power.
He’s worth backing at $13 as an each-way type, and the place money is attractive.
| 8. Vatican Storm (9) J: Steven Parnham 56.5kg x210x T: Stefan Vahala | |||
| Returns from a four-month break with blinkers on for the first time. He ended last campaign 13th in the Listed Belmont Guineas, beaten just over five lengths, after working home fairly from a long way back without threatening. Has good upside and with the blinkers going on, he can make an impression. | |||
Punters get value odds with our Eurythmic Stakes SRM, which includes our three selected runners.
- To Win – No. 3 King Of Light
- Top 3 – No. 1 Western Empire
- Top 5 – No. 8 Vatican Storm
We have King of Light to Win, Western Empire Top 3, and Vatican Storm Top 5, which pays $7.75 for our three-runner SRM.
We’re anchoring King of Light, which is a good way to maximise the odds. Western Empire should run in the top 3, and Vatican Storm’s top 5 chances are strong in this race.

| 2. Watch Me Rock (1) J: Brad Parnham 59.5kg 2x69x T: Jason Pateman | |||
| Resumes after an eight-month spell with two trials behind him, the latest a close second at Lark Hill. He was tailed off behind Tom Kitten in the G1 The All-Star Mile when last seen, but his prior G1 Futurity Stakes sixth behind Pericles was much sounder. Didn’t really fire in Melbourne, but his two trials this time in say he’s back on song and ready to fire. | |||
| 3. King Of Light (10) J: Lucy Fiore 58.5kg 110×1 T: Daniel Morton | |||
| Returns from a two-month let-up after winning the Listed Idyllic Prince (Goodwood Sprint) at Belmont Park by a length and a half first-up, travelling like the odds-on favourite and scoring with something in hand. | 4. In Good Order (6) J: Holly Nottle 58.5kg 7648x T: Daniel Morton | |||
| Returns from a four-month break after a plain end to last campaign, finishing eighth in the Listed South West Cup at Bunbury when beaten over 17 lengths with no clear excuse. His previous fourth behind Western Empire in the G3 Strickland Stakes was much better, and two trials should help his fitness. Can feature with things shaping nicely for him on resumption. | |||
| 5. West Star (3) J: Chloe Azzopardi 57.5kg 365×9 T: Simon A Miller | |||
| Had a genuine excuse first-up at Kalgoorlie when raced wide throughout and finished ninth, beaten over 13 lengths, but the margin still leaves work to do. Two back he was fifth in the G3 Hyperion Stakes behind Western Empire and battled on well enough at long odds. Has G3 form behind Western Empire, but this is a tough rebound. | |||
| 6. Mojo Rhythm (5) J: Holly Watson 57.5kg x000x T: Mitchell Pateman | |||
| Resumes after an eight-month spell with recent form that is hard to recommend, having been second last in the Listed Grandstand Cup at this track and last in the Listed Bunbury Stakes before the break. Stable is flying but he’s hard to line up as he resumes without a trial. | |||
| 7. Let’s Galahvant (2) J: Zephen Johnston-Porter 56.5kg 0721x T: Daniel & Ben Pearce | |||
| Returns from a four-month break after winning the Listed South West Cup at Bunbury, driving hard late to beat Diamond Scene by just under two lengths. He had earlier charged home for second to Western Empire in the G3 Strickland Stakes at big odds, so the form has depth. Happy to look elsewhere until he gets out over further. | |||
| 8. Vatican Storm (9) J: Steven Parnham 56.5kg x210x T: Stefan Vahala | |||
| Returns from a four-month break with blinkers on for the first time. He ended last campaign 13th in the Listed Belmont Guineas, beaten just over five lengths, after working home fairly from a long way back without threatening. Has good upside and with the blinkers going on, he can make an impression. | |||
| 9. Bonjoy (7) J: Clint Johnston-Porter 55.5kg 1136x T: Jason Miller | |||
| Returns from a six-month break with two trials since racing. She was beaten just over two lengths in the Listed Sheila Gwynne (Matchmaker) Stakes at this venue when interfered with near the 800m, and had been a close third in the Listed Old Comrade (York) Stakes before that. Boasts a solid first-up record and she is not to be discounted. | |||
| 10. Zipaway (4) J: Laqdar Ramoly 55kg 0750x T: Neville Parnham | |||
| Resumes after a ten-month spell following a tough finish to last campaign, when last in the G1 Northerly Stakes at this track and beaten over 14 lengths at long odds. His prior Listed Carbine Club Of WA Stakes fifth had some merit after racing keenly and making contact. May be better over further, but he draws well and won’t be far away. | |||
| 11. Forever Boy (8) J: Chris Parnham 55kg 1233x T: Michael Grantham | |||
| Resumes after a ten-month spell with staying-class form from last campaign, including a third in the G2 Perth Cup at this track and a close third in the Listed A T A Stakes. They might be a little sharp for him at this stage of the campaign. | |||
