The 5YO gelding can sit just off the speed before looming into the race with ease, and he could breeze straight past them over the final 200m. Mr Miller is a good type, but Althoff is a professional type, and experience could be enough to see him score a minor upset over the favourite.

The $3.70 odds are generous, and he could have easily been paying around $2.80, so take the value available.

He’s another Waller-trained gelding, and his record speaks for itself. From five starts, he has three wins and two second placings, so he has been a punters’ dream throughout his career so far.

Barrier 11 will mean that he has to do more work than our top pick, but Tommy Berry is riding well, and his turn-of-foot is good enough to finish over the top of this field. That’s why he’s the $2.50 favourite, and although those odds are shorter than what we wanted, he deserves the attention.

Going under the radar is HELLSING (3), who ended his last campaign with back-to-back wins at Scone and Randwick, and there is nothing wrong with that form.

The 6YO gelding by Dandy Man defeated some good types, and although he has to carry more weight at 58kg on Friday, his class and overall record mean that he can’t be overlooked as a winning chance.

The Archibald stable knows how to train winners at Newcastle, and with all the attention on the two favourites, runners like Hellsing could go unnoticed. He’s good enough to boost SRM payouts with a Top 4 result.
