Caulfield Guineas History

The Caulfield Guineas is one of Australia’s most prestigious 3YO horse races. First run in 1881 at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne, the race is contested over 1600m, and it quickly became an important event on the Australian racing calendar, attracting some of the country’s best young thoroughbreds.

It’s a great form guide for the Victoria Derby, with numerous runners completing the double, including Red Anchor, Mahogany, and Theo. However, no runner has done the double since Helenus in 2002.

James McDonald has three recent wins in the race, and trainer Chris Waller is a four-time winner. The $3 million race is one of the richest races on the Melbourne Spring calendar, and it continues to stand the test of time.
