Week 8, baby. We’re almost halfway through the season and s*** is getting real.
The Colts are in a full rebuild, trades are ramping up before the deadline and daylight savings ends in the US so I get an extra hours sleep on a Monday.
Let’s talk ball hey?
Here is my preview of Week 8 of the 2026/27 NFL season.
The Panthers got flogged by the Bucs last week and everyone’s jumped off the BY9 bandwagon again. Not me. One bad day is not a trend and I’m backing Bryce to bounce straight back.
The Packers are seriously banged up. No Micah Parsons, Zaire Franklin is out with a broken leg, and a handful of others are questionable. Bryce has been slinging it this year and I think he has a day at Lambeau.
The Panthers run defence is the worst in the league however, so even in an upset I’m backing Josh Jacobs to have a big one.
Baker is back from that horror thumb injury and he was huge in last week’s win over Carolina. The Bucs look like a proper football team again. Is it too little too late?
Atlanta are elite against the run but leak through the air, so I’m staying away from Bucky’s ground totals and loading up on Mr Mayfield to air that mamma jamma out. That 250+ price is way bigger than I expected, so either the bookies think he’s rusty or they think Tampa run it all day. I’m taking the a punt on Baker.
Neither of these teams are good. There, I said it.
The Cowboys can’t stop the run and can’t get off the field on third down. The Cardinals are giving up the most points in the league. Dak v Brissett on a short week for Dallas, give me the overs.
Javonte Williams ran for a truckload of yards last week and Arizona’s run D is generous. Big day for Javonte incoming.
This Steelers team is the Jaylen Warren show and they need to start acting like it. I’m sounding like a Ryback fan, Feed him more.
Pittsburgh’s defence is legit and they’re at home. I’m backing them to cover, I also just hate the Cleveland Browns as an organisation.
Germie Bernard was a fantasy darling early and then went quiet in Paris. He’s due to bounce back and the price for him to score a touchdown puts some serious lead in my pencil.
Both these teams have won one of their last five. Grim stuff.
When will Fernando Mendoza make his debut? I thought it would be this week but it’s not looking likely.
What I do think is looking likely however is Ashton Jeanty to do shitloads. The Jets run defence isn’t fantastic and that’s a weakness I want to profit on.
The Raiders defence hasn’t been great either actually, let’s take the overs.
The Colts are in full rebuild mode. They’re shipping out their stars and looking at next year. When the front office has given up on the season, why would the players care?
This is going to be a bloodbath in Jacksonville.
Let’s go hard. Trevor Lawrence goes to work against a team that’s mentally checked out.
Joe Burrow is quietly putting together an MVP season. Four TDs against the Ravens last week and AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
The Titans are poor against the run which makes me think Chase Brown might finally reward his fantasy owners. I don’t think the Titans can hang with Joe Shiesty and the boys.
The Vikings defence is the best in the league at keeping points off the board and they’re second against the pass. That’s a nightmare for Detroit.
This is the ultimate test for Kyler, if he can’t have a big day against this Lions D, he’s not torching anyone.
I’m not backing Kyler’s yardage, but Justin Jefferson is the way in against the worst pass defence in the league. Vikings with the start, Jefferson to eat.
LAMAR IS BACK. Game of the week, and of course they have hid it in the 4am time slot for us Aussies.
The Ravens got pumped by Cincy without him and the Bills defence has been a mess this year. Buffalo are fresh off the bye with DJ Moore back. This has points written all over it.
Zay Flowers has been brilliant and Josh Allen is gonna Josh Allen.
The Chargers are 0-6. There is nothing about this team that interests me.
The Rams will beat them up, and they do it on the ground with Kyren and Corum who are looking like the best tandem I’ve seen since vegemite and milk arrowroot biscuits (sounds weird but trust me).
Big day for Rams RBs inbound.
Drake Maye was really good in the loss to Chicago.
Miami did win last week, but I’m confident that is not a trend. They’re still a 1-5 team with half their roster on the injury report.
Pats cover, Maye yeets it, Hunter Henry finds the end zone. And because I’m feeling cheeky, let’s have a flirt with the Pats D scoring one. Malik Willis sucks.
The Chiefs were really poor against Seattle last week. It wasn’t the game I expected, but I think they bounce back.
Both passing games have question marks with banged up receivers, so I’m going through the ground. Denver can’t stop the run and Ken Walker is going to feast.
On the other side, Sean Payton has said Jonah Coleman needs more touches. If he gets them, that 60+ price is too big to ignore.
The Eagles are basically playing their reggies. No Hurts, Tanner McKee under centre, and Saquon and DeVonta are both battling hamstrings. Back up RB Dameon Pierce is on IR too, this is a walking wounded team.
Jayden Daniels is back and Washington are fresh off the bye. This won’t be pretty to watch, but the Commanders should get it done.
What a way to finish the week. The Seahawks just traded for Quenton Nelson and look better every week. They’re favourites for a reason.
But you know where I stand. This Bears team has been incredible and Caleb has been unreal. This is a proper test for him against a great defence, and I reckon he passes the test with flying colours. The upset is very possible but you don’t have to come with me on it. If you want to just back the overs, I won’t blame you.
