The Group 1 Memsie Stakes runs this Saturday at Caulfield, and Neds has our complete 2026 Memsie Stakes form guide and runner-by-runner analysis available below.
12 runners are expected to line up in the $750,000 feature, with Memsie Stakes odds presenting an even field for punters, with many quality runners paying each-way odds to win.
Our form guide features a runner-by-runner guide, so punters can make an informed bet in the 1400m feature.
A former Memsie Stakes winner, Mr Brightside looks an interesting option at double-figure odds. He has demonstrated that he can handle wet tracks, and while the task is tougher for a 9YO, he has enough ability to make his presence felt first-up. He appeals as a value inclusion in Memsie Stakes tips.
1. Mr Brightside (9) J: Craig Williams 59kg 2125x T: Ben, Will & Jd Hayes
Jimmysstar has attracted plenty of early support in the market, and his racing pattern is fairly predictable. He is likely to settle towards the rear before building momentum with a long run home, which could work well if the track remains wet. He shapes as one of the major winning chances and deserves plenty of respect in Memsie Stakes betting.
2. Jimmysstar (8) J: Ethan Brown 59kg 5342x T: Ciaron Maher
Tom Kitten looks more likely to benefit from having this run under his belt. It would be a surprise to see him produce his peak performance first-up, with his best efforts expected to come later in the spring carnival.
3. Tom Kitten (1) J: Mark Zahra 59kg x117x T: Anthony & Sam Freedman
Buckaroo is an intriguing roughie at $61, although he would be more appealing with a recent run on the board. His bigger spring assignments are still ahead, suggesting he may not be fully tuned up for this event. At the price, however, he isn’t completely without appeal.
4. Buckaroo (10) J: Jye Mcneil 59kg 0x25x T: Chris Waller
Angel Capital has enormous ability, although he hasn’t always been the easiest horse to trust from a betting perspective. His first-up third behind Ninja was better than it may look on paper. With plenty of upside, he can make his presence felt here, and the odds are worth considering.
5. Angel Capital (5) J: Ben Melham 59kg 326×3 T: Chris Waller
Birdman has attracted some interest at longer odds and could be capable of running a race at $27. Like several of the Waller-trained runners, he appears to have bigger spring objectives ahead. A victory would come as a surprise, but he is one to watch for a strong late finish.
6. Birdman (4) J: Beau Mertens 59kg 1521x T: Chris Waller
Cosmic Crusader could easily have been favourite with a kinder barrier draw. Barrier 11 makes things more complicated, but there is no questioning the class of the Western Australian visitor, who is chasing another win at Caulfield. William Pike will be a major asset, and If he gets the right run, he has the quality to overcome the draw.
7. Cosmic Crusader (11) J: William Pike 59kg 12×11 T: Andrea Leek
Sabaj brings a solid overall record to the race, with five wins from 12 starts, but this represents a significant step up in class. Most of his strongest performances have come in Group 2 and Group 3 company, so he’ll need to find another level to feature here. At $41, he’s not completely hopeless, but improvement is required.
8. Sabaj (12) J: Jamie Melham 59kg x244x T: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr
Autumn Boy is one runner who shouldn’t be dismissed, particularly with the prospect of further improvement as a 4YO. He enjoyed a strong campaign last season and appears capable of making an impact if he returns at his best. Reports suggest he has been working well enough, making him an interesting runner who could be overlooked in the market.
9. Autumn Boy (3) J: James McDonald 58.5kg 3212x T: Chris Waller
Beiwacht missed the Winx Stakes last week after being scratched, and that decision may ultimately prove beneficial. This race looks a more suitable assignment than taking on the elite mares, while his toughness could see him involved in the finish. There has been solid respect for him in the betting, and his price could shorten further before the jump.
10. Beiwacht (7) J: Nash Rawiller 58.5kg 8261x T: Chris Waller
Planet Red is an interesting outsider, although there are doubts about whether he has reached the level required to win a race of this calibre. His previous outing was affected by circumstances, but he may still be better suited against slightly easier opposition. Connections deserve credit for taking their chance at the top level, and he could still finish strongly.
11. Planet Red (2) J: Blake Shinn 58.5kg x226x T: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr
Treasurethe Moment deserves plenty of respect given she won this race last year. Her previous preparation was highly consistent, producing a win and two placings, so she may be better placed than the current odds suggest. If she returns anywhere near her best, she has the ability to be right in the finish and is a runner our Memsie Stakes tips will be keeping firmly onside.
12. Treasurethe Moment (6) J: Damian Lane 57kg x313x T: Matt Laurie
