The Rosebud

Looking for early info on this year’s The Rosebud? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.

The Rosebud, Randwick

Run over 1,100 metres, The Rosebud is a Listed race taking place at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse* in mid-August each year. With a $160,000 prize purse as of 2022, it attracts a quality line-up of promising three-year-old sprinters eyeing tougher assignments over the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.

*Note: The Rosebud and other Missile Stakes Day races in 2021 moved to Royal Randwick due to COVID-19.

In 2022 The Rosebud was moved from the Missile Stakes Day program to run a week later as the feature race at Rosehill on The Rosebud Day.

The Rosebud, contested under quality handicap conditions, serves as a key lead-up into the coveted Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) back at the track later in the season. In 2021 The Rosebud runner-up In The Congo went on to win that year’s Golden Rose.

It also serves as a potential spring starting point for sprinters heading towards Flemington’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, and even the $15 million The Everest (1500m) at Randwick in October.

The form of the 2021 The Rosebud was franked with the winner Paulele going on to run top three in a host of upcoming Group 1 events including the: 2022 TJ Smith Stakes (3rd), 2022 Doomben 10,000 (2nd) and the 2022 Kingsford-Smith Cup (2nd).

Which Horse Will Win The The Rosebud in 2022?

The best way to pick which horse will win the The Rosebud in 2022 is to take into account their lead-up spring racing form, assess the barriers, and consider the weight each horse will carry.

Additional factors to consider when selecting The Rosebud winner include:

  • Local Legends – Horses that have recently picked up wins at Randwick and Rosehill should put in a strong performance.
  • Handicap Factor – The handicap can either be a hindrance or a help. Look for horses that can bear the extra weight, or get much needed relief from a smaller handicap.
