The Four Pillars race is a recent addition to the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival and was inaugurated in 2021 when Kiss Sum won.

The $500,000 showdown takes place at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on Golden Eagle Day, which is held the Saturday prior to the iconic Melbourne Cup on the same day Victoria hosts its VRC Derby Day card at Flemington.

The event is a BenchMark 68 handicap restricted to horses in eligible Midway trainers’ stables.

The Midway races in New South Wales have only been in place since the winter of 2021, but is already a popular concept.

Like the $20 million The Everest and the $2 million The Kosciuszko held earlier during the carnival at Randwick, the event is a slot race open to 18 horses.

The eighteen Four Pillars runners are selected by eighteen members of the public that were successful in the second-chance draw of The Kosciuszko sweepstakes tickets.

The 2021 Four Pillars form was franked with the upset winner Kiss Sum returning the following winter to win Brisbane’s Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1600m).
