The Everest was first run in 2017 and the the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Redzel was the inaugural winner. Redzel made history as not only the first The Everest champion but also the first, and to date only, dual winner successfully defending his title in 2018.

He failed a three-peat when returning in 2019 only to run eighth behind the Chris Waller-trained Yes Yes Yes who was the first three-year-old to win The Everest.

In 2020 The Everest winner was Les Bridge’s classy grey Classique Legend who improved on a sixth to Yes Yes Yes the year before.

Classique Legend was also the first The Everest favourite to salute for the punters jumping at odds $4.20. Jockey Kerrin McEvoy celebrated his third The Everest winning ride in 2020 having also been aboard two-time champion Redzel.

The next year trainer Chris Waller won his second The Everest trophy this time with the favourite Nature Strip (2021) who saluted in the event at his third attempt having previously run 4th in 2019 and 7th in 2020.

Nature Strip is also the oldest The Everest winner to date saluting in 2021 as a seven-year-old.

In 2022 Giga Kick became the first undefeated horse to win The Everest and the longest-priced winner to date when scoring an upset at $21 odds as the second three-year-old champion in the event. Nature Strip defending his title ran fourth in the 2022 The Everest results.

The 2023 The Everest winner was the Joe Pride-trained Think About It who narrowly defeated I Wish I Win for the victory.

The Everest results previously impact the name of the $3 million Winners Stakes (1300m) race held on The Golden Eagle Day at Rosehill in late October. Each season the Winners Stakes was renamed in honour of the previous year’s The Everest winner up until 2024 when the Winners Stakes was renamed the Russell Balding Stakes.

The 2024 The Everest winner was the Ciaron Maher-trained Bella Nipotina ($9) who became the first mare to win the event off an incredible front-running performance three-wide with no cover to deny the 2022 winner Giga Kick a second success in a thriller with now two-time winning jockey Craig Williams aboard.
