Victoria’s All-Star Mile race is a newly created $5 million feature event contested during the annual Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival. First run and won in 2019 with Mystic Journey the inaugural champion from Tasmania, the 1600m showdown began at Flemington Racecourse.
In 2020 it was held at Caulfield with Perth champion Regal Power saluting, while the 2021 edition of The All-Star Mile was conducted at Moonee Valley Racecourse and won by the New South Wales-trained Mugatoo.
The 2022 edition retured to its inaugural home at Flemington Racecourse and saw the favourite Zaaki salute.
The Special Conditions race sees members of the Australian and New Zealand public vote for eligible horses to contest the event with The All-Star Mile field now expanded to 15 starters. Ten of those are voted in by the public.
Racing Victoria selects the remaining ‘Wildcard’ horses in the All-Star Mile race field, which is contested at weight-for-age.
The winners of the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) and Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) are also offered a golden ticket into the All-Star Mile field should they not already be one of the Top 10 vote-getters.
