The longest-priced Stradbroke Handicap winners in recent times include River Lad ($31 in 2014), Linton ($26 in 2013), Mid Sumer Music ($31 in 2012), and Mr Baritone ($31 in 2008).
There have been eight dual Stradbroke Handicap winners with with Black Piranha (2009, 2010); Rough Habit (1991, 1992); Daybreak Lover (1984, 1986); Lucky Ring (1949, 1950); Petrol Lager (1934, 1935); Highland (1925, 1926); Gold Tie (1918, 1919); and the first Babel (1895, 1896).
Impending (2017) and Stefi Magnetica (2024) are the latest three-year-old Stradbroke Handicap winners.
The last filly to win the Stradbroke Handicap before Stefi Magnetica (2024) was La Montagna back in 2006.
Tyzone holds the current Stradbroke Handicap record over the 1400m winning in 2020 in a time of 1 minute 20:43 seconds.
Other notable Stradbroke Handicap champions include Tofane (2021) who was the last Stradbroke Handicap winning mare, Trekking (2019), Srikandi (2015), that spring’s Cox Plate winning mare Dane Ripper (1997), All Our Mob (1994), and Imposing (1979).
The 2022 Stradbroke Handicap winner Alligator Blood ($11) enjoyed his first victory since the 2020 Australian Guineas, the former Queenslander handing co-trainer Gai Waterhouse with her 150th career Group 1 victory.
The Stradbroke Handicap 2023 winner Think About It ($3.60F) saluted for the punters taking his record up to nine wins from 10 starts with Joe Pride’s The Everest-bound son of So You Think backing-up from a Kingsford Smith Cup victory at the track a fortnight earlier. Think About It went on to win that spring’s $20 million The Everest race in Sydney.
The 2024 Stradbroke Handicap winner was the Bjorn Baker-trained filly Stefi Magnetica ($15) who continued her ace rise through the ranks in Brisbane for the winter when charging up the inside with the 50kg lightweight to beat Doomben 10,000 winning mare Bella Nipotina home in a thriller.
The 2025 Stradbroke Handicap winner is TBC and will be known when Queensland’s showcase race headlines the Eagle Farm racing action on Saturday the 14th of June 2025.
