Sandown Guineas
Looking for this year’s Sandown Guineas betting odds, tips and field? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know on the race.
Taking place during the Zipping Classic Race Day, the Sandown Guineas is a Group 2 mile race open to three-year-olds and run at set weights in late November to early December each year.
A key feature at the meeting, formerly held the Saturday after Champions Stakes Day concludes the Melbourne Cup Carnival each spring, the Sandown Guineas offers $300,000 in prize money and often attracts graduates that ran in the previous month’s Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).
In 2021 the Sandown Guineas and Zipping Classic Day card was moved to late November at Caulfield Racecourse where it remained for the 2022 edition.
Three-year-olds in the Sandown Guineas field may also be on the quick back-up out of Flemington’s VRC Carbine Club Stakes, taking place just a few days earlier and as the same distance.
Originally a race for fillies, since 1968 the race has been open to any sex, as long as they are a three-year-old. Group 2 status was obtained in 1979.
Pretty Brazen (2019), See You In Heaven (2022), Serasana (2023), and Snitzanova (2024) are the last fillies to beat home the boys in the Sandown Guineas results.
