Sandown Guineas

Taking place during the Zipping Classic Race Day, the Sandown Guineas is a Group 2 mile race.

Lead in races include the VRC Carbine Club Stakes, taking place just a few days earlier and as the same distance. Another race is the Coolmore Stud Stakes, two weeks earlier, with a 1200 metre race length, but having near identical weights and age restrictions.

Originally a race for fillies, since 1968 the race has been open to any sex, as long as they are a three year old. Group 2 status was obtained in 1979.

Which Horse Will Win The Sandown Guineas

One of the best ways to pick who will win the Sandown Guineas is to take into account the form, assess the barriers, consider the weight the horse will carry, among other factors.

Additional factors to take into considerations are as follows:

  • Previous start – A lot of winners of this race have just come off of contesting the Melbourne Cup.
  • Jockeys – The field will often feature jockeys that have ridden the winning horse in previous years.
  • Course – Not a lot of major races take place at Sandown Racecourse, so it’s hard to look for horses that do well. Instead give an advantage to horses that do well on more popular Victorian race tracks.
