Phar Lap Stakes 2026 Results
The official 2026 Phar Lap Stakes results will be available below once the race takes place on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
- #1 Sixties
- #8 Federalist
- #5 Cellarmaster
Chris Waller’s outstanding record in the Phar Lap continued with the master horseman securing his ninth win in 2026, this time with his Flying Artie colt Sixties ($1.55F). After a luckless Australian Guineas third, the up-and-comer atoned with a strong win for the punters in the 2026 Phar Lap Stakes results thanks to a brave on-pace ride by jockey James McDonald. Coming from second at the top of the straight, Sixties moved up on the outside of the front running Shangri La Boy to hit the lead at the 200m mark and draw clear to salute by 0.67 lengths and firm from $21 into $11 to win the $4 million Doncaster Mile on April 4.

Run over 1,500 metres every March, the Phar Lap Stakes is a Group 2 race, held during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival on Coolmore Classic Day at Rosehill Gardens. With a $300,000 prize purse, the set weights race is open to three-year-old runners and has been known to produce some strong contenders in both the ATC Australian Oaks and the Australian Derby.

The latest fillies to complete the Phar Lap Stakes – Australian Oaks double are the Chris Waller-trained stablemates Unforgotten (2018), Verry Elleegant (2019), and Hungry Heart (2021).
Waller took his record in the race up to six wins in seven years with Hungry Heart in 2021 and she also won the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) between the Phar Lap and the ATC Oaks.
Waller prepared his incredible seventh Phar Lap Stakes winning filly in nine years with the odds-on favourite Zougotcha saluting for the punters in 2023, and then his eighth in 11 years with Lazzura successful for the stable in 2025.
Waller secured his ninth Phar Lap Stakes win and his first with a colt in 2026 with Sixties.

Which Horse Will Win the Phar Lap Stakes in 2026
The best way to pick which horse will win the Phar Lap Stakes in 2026 is to take into account their lead-up Sydney racing form, assess the barriers, consider the weights and look at the track/distance records of all the runners.
Additional factors to consider when picking the Phar Lap Stakes winner include:
- Female Lead Ups – For fillies, you want to check out the results of the Light Fingers Stakes and the Surround Stakes. Zougotcha (4th in 2023), Zardozi (11th in 2024), and Lazzura (3rd in 2025) are the latest Phar Lap Stakes winners to come off a lead-up run in the Group 1 Surround Stakes.

- Waller Factor – Trainer Chris Waller enjoyed nine wins in 12 years with his fillies Winx (2015), Foxplay (2017), Unforgotten (2018), Verry Elleegant (2019), Funstar (2020), Hungry Heart (2021), Zougotcha (2023), and Lazzura (2025); followed by his first win by a colt in Sixties (2026).
Phar Lap Stakes Favourites 2026
Favourites in 2026 Phar Lap Stakes betting include Chris Waller’s recent CS Hayes winner Sixties coming off a close third in the Group 1 Australian Guineas, the stable’s progressive Trapeze Artist filly Panova running second-up down in grade off a Group 1 Surround Stakes sixth, and the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Pierro colt Shangri La Boy out to atone for his last fresh in the Hobartville.
Funstar ($1.55 in 2020), Hungry Heart ($3.70 in 2021), Zougotcha ($1.50 in 2023) and Sixties ($1.55 in 2026) are the last Phar Lap Stakes favourites to win.
