Looking for this year’s B.J. McLachlan Stakes betting odds, tips and form? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.
Run over 1,200 metres, the B.J. McLachlan Stakes is a Group 3 race taking place at either Doomben or Eagle Farm Racecourse in December as part of the Brisbane Summer Racing Carnival. With a $300,000 prize purse as of 2023, it attracts some of the country’s finest two year olds.
Starting out as a Listed Race, this race was upgraded to Group 3 status in 2011.
This race serves as a key lead up to the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) run at the Gold Coast the following month. Coolangatta (2021, 2022) was the last to do the double as a two-year-old over the summer.
Coolangatta also went on to run third in the 2022 Golden Slipper Stakes and win the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) that spring in Melbourne.
It is traditionally held as part of either Brisbane’s Boxing Day race meeting on the 26th of December or the Christmas Eve racing program on the 24th of December.
In 2023 the B.J. McLachlan Stakes Day card ran on the 23rd of December.
