LA BARRITA (10) shapes as a strong contender in this Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate, easing in grade after competing at Listed level last time out.
Prepared by Tony & Calvin McEvoy, the filly endured a tough run in the Bill Carter Stakes, racing three-wide in the early stages before being forced back toward the tail of the field. She also sustained lacerations to her off hind fetlock during that effort.
Her debut performance at Warwick Farm was full of promise, finishing a close third after making up significant ground late.
The blinkers are removed for the first time here, and with a favourable draw and Ben Thompson aboard, she gets her chance to bounce back.
HELLARIOUS (9) has returned this campaign in top order and is chasing a hat-trick of victories.
The Tony & Maddy Sears-trained mare worked hard first-up on the Gold Coast Poly, covering ground early before producing a strong late surge to score in a tight finish.
She was even more impressive last time over 1300m at the Gold Coast, rolling forward to lead and then kicking clear in the straight to score by 4.05 lengths.
This represents a step up in grade, but she maps to enjoy a favourable run, with Mark Du Plessis sticking aboard.
SAINT ALDWYN (4) has been in outstanding form since joining the Kelly Schweida yard, winning three of his four runs for the stable.
Previously trained by Chris Waller, the Zoustar gelding broke through for his maiden at this track four starts back before following up with another victory at Eagle Farm.
He had little luck two runs ago when held up at a crucial stage and finishing a close third, beaten half a length, but bounced back last start over 1300m at Ipswich with a strong finishing burst to score by half a length.
He stays in the same grade and carries an identical weight with the benefit of Corey Sutherland’s 2kg claim.
From a low barrier, he looks set to enjoy all the favours and prove hard to beat again.
EASY LOVE (3) resumed in terrific fashion two runs back at Ipswich, settling off the pace before hugging the rail on the turn and finishing strongly to score by an impressive 2.12 lengths.
The David Vandyke-trained mare was honest again last start over 1680m at Ipswich, but just couldn’t match the late strength of her rivals, finishing fourth and beaten 1.24 lengths.
She looks set to improve third-up, a scenario that saw her win earlier in her career over this same course and distance by just over half a length.
Jag Guthmann-Chester, who has two wins from three rides aboard her, stays in the saddle and should give her every chance from a favourable draw.
