Monday’s standalone fixture brings together the second-placed sides from Groups A and B, and it has all the makings of a cracking contest after South Africa pulled off one of the bigger surprises of the tournament with a 1-0 win over Korea last Thursday.

For Canada, it has been a proper rollercoaster so far. A 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina was followed by a 6-0 demolition of Qatar, before Switzerland landed two quick blows to hand the Canucks a 2-1 defeat.

The Canadians have been one of the quicker and more direct sides at the tournament, especially when they can break in transition. They are also happy to press high, force mistakes, and turn defence into attack quickly.

The finishing has not always been perfect, but chance creation has not been an issue for Jesse Marsch’s side.

South Africa were probably owed a cleaner look after having two players sent off in their opener against Mexico, but even since then, they have not exactly taken games by the scruff of the neck. There has not been a heap of polish in the final third, although Thursday’s winner against Korea was a genuine moment of quality.

Canada do look a touch short in the market, but with their pace, width, and more reliable attacking profile, they still look the side most likely to get it done.

Prediction: Canada to Win and Over 2.5 Goals
