The Rugby League Hit Parade

The Rugby League Hit Parade

As a tribute to the goddess of rock, but more importantly, a rugby league icon Tina Turner, we’ve put together SIMPLY THE BEST (see what we did there) tunes that the great game has to offer.

While there’s no doubt Tina Turner will be remembered as one of the greatest rock/pop artists of our time but her contribution to Rugby League helped make the big game bigger.

To celebrate all things Tina Turner and rugby league, we’re counting down the chart-toppers of the great game, with legends, jingles, and the biggest names in music

There’s plenty of Barnsey, Jessica Mauboy, Bon Jovi, Hoodoo Gurus, Reg Regan and yes, Tina Turner.

Let’s get on with the countdown and bring you the 20-best songs as part of the Rugby League Hit Parade.

(20) Blow That Whistle Ref – Thomas Keneally

Not a song, but still gets you pumped for the occasion.

(19) Somethings Got a Hold on Me – Jessica Mauboy

Just about every song in the Jessica Mauboy catalogue is a Rugby League tune.

(18) This is Our House – Bon Jovi

Nice rockin’ tune, originally written for the New England Patriots whose head coach Bill Belichick is a good friend of Jon Bon Jovi.

(17) That’s in Queensland – Denis Carnahan

Where’s the Grand Final not being played in?

(16) The Rugby League Song – Danny McMaster

Stand and be proud!

(15) Rugby Rugby Rugby League Song – Sunday Roast

A personal favourite of the Neds content team.

(14) Monday Nights Under Lights – Channel 10

Underrated catchy jingle from back in the day.

(13) Winfield Cup Theme 1983 – NSWRL

Making the big game bigger.

(12) Winfield Cup 1988 – NSWRL

The big game is getting even bigger.

(11) Harden Up – Tommy Raudonikis

R.I.P. great man.

(10) What you Get Is What You See – Tina Turner

Before Simply the Best, this was the OG for Tina and the game.

(9) Feels Like WOAH – Wes Carr

All the feels.

(8) We are The Champions – Super League/Queen

The Super League had all the budget to sign up all the good players and even afford the rights to a Queen song.

No expense spared, just the soul of the game.

(7) Penrith Panthers Song – Jane Scali

Has been topping the charts after Grand Finals recently.

(6) Glory, Glory to South Sydney

It could be the most iconic club song of all the NRL teams.

Souths song isn’t unique, but it’s special and means a lot to the people down at Redfern.

Also, any club song that has verses dissing other teams is a winner with me.

(5) Friday Night’s a Great Night for Football – Billy Thorpe

Burke’s Backyard has just wrapped up for another week, it’s time to sit back for Friday Night Footy with Rabbs, Fatty and the team.

Life is good.

(4) Am I Ever Gonna See The Biff Again? – Reg Reagan & The Knucklemen

An automatic contender for top-5.

It’s not too late to BRING BACK THE BIFF!

(3) Greatest Game of All – NSWRL

No explanation required.

(2) That’s My Team – Hoodoo Gurus

Some would say it’s number 1, but what a tune!

(1) Simply the Best – Tina Turner

It goes without saying that  “Simply the Best” is number one and always will be.

The ultimate rugby league song.
