Run over 1,200 metres each February at Royal Randwick on Apollo Stakes Day, the Light Fingers Stakes is a Group 2 race held during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. With a $300,000 prize purse, the event is open to three-year-old fillies and attracts a class line-up.
This race serves as an excellent lead in to the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) as well as the recently upgraded Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m). The latest filly to do the Light Fingers – Surround Stakes double was Nakeeta Jane (2019).
The Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) is another upcoming autumn feature for Light Fingers Stakes graduates and Fangirl (2022) from the Chris Waller stable was the last filly to win both events.
The Light Fingers Stakes winner In Secret franked the form in Melbourne that prep winning the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) against the older horses.
