Tramway Stakes 2026 Betting Tips, Predictions & Favourites

HEADLEY GRANGE (1) could be the forgotten runner of the Tramway Stakes, and his class could be enough to win.

The 6YO gelding won at Group 1 level two starts ago before struggling in the Stradbroke Handicap, but we’re prepared to forgive that effort after a long autumn and winter campaign.

We expect him to return from a spell ready to fire, and his fresh form reads well. He has had five fresh-up starts for three wins and a placing, so we can’t understand why he’s not battling for favouritism with Tramway Stakes odds.

He has the inside draw to work with, which helps over 1400m, and he doesn’t need time to get going. He’ll be ready to run a bad race for Joe Pride, and the stable star should run better than the $5.50 suggests.

PRIVATE EYE (8) looks a very strong chance in the 2026 Tramway Stakes, and it’s easy to understand why punters are showing plenty of interest.

The gelding has already earned more than $12 million, and his latest second behind Cosmic Crusader at Caulfield is a good form guide. That performance has since been backed up in Melbourne, and the trip to Sydney should hold no concerns.

Randwick is a track where Private Eye has performed consistently well, with three wins and seven placings.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see him attract enough support to challenge for favouritism. He is always well-backed to win, and his record alone makes him a standout bet, so include him in Tramway Stakes predictions.

Stranger things have happened on a race track, although EL CASTELLO (7) beating this field would be right up there.

However, we see him as a solid place and first-four bet at the odds. He is better than his form suggests, and although his two runs in the autumn were poor, he has always shown his best form in the spring.

It’s hard to believe that he has had only 14 starts. He has four wins and two placings, and he looked like a potential top liner early in his career. That hasn’t materialised, but he’s still an upset chance in a fresh state.
