Super Bowl LIX Novelty Markets Preview

Super Bowl LIX Novelty Markets Preview

Do you want to have a bet on the Super Bowl but know nothing about the actual game?

Then this is the preview for you if you want to have a bet on the big game without actually having to know a thing about American Football.

If you have no interest in working out what the difference is between a slant, a zig route or a hitch, then good news, you don’t have to.

We’ve got you covered for the novelties here at Neds with our overly detailed breakdown of the Super Bowl markets for everything around the game.

Yes, Taylor Swift does get a (begrudging) mention.

Coin Toss

There are two big elements to the pregame ceremonies with markets attached and the first will be the coin toss.

It is a proper 50-50 proposition no matter which way you slice it, and I always love to call heads so let’s kick start the bets with that.

Perhaps you would like some sort of statistical information to consider your bets though, heads has come up 28 times with tails 30 times.

Heads has been the winning play in three of the last four though.

Will the Chiefs call the coin toss correctly though?

They have won the toss in their last three Super Bowl appearances, correctly calling heads their loss to Tampa Bay and in their win over San Francisco.

There are two markets that are offering that bet with the correct/incorrect coin toss or the team to win the coin toss.

As the nominal visitors, the Chiefs get the choice of heads or tails, make of that what you will.

  • Heads @ $1.95
  • Coin Toss Call Result Correct @ $1.95
  • Kansas City to Win Coin Toss @ $1.95
National Anthem

The timed anthem market at publish is framed a little bit differently to normal, with the parameters set to include the first note to the last note.

Normally the time starts on the first word sung and stops when the singer finishes “brave” at the end so we do have a slightly wider parameter.

It also explains why the song going over two minutes is at such a short price because it does lean into the singer getting a few bars of lead in music and holding that last note for effect.

Two minutes is a long time for the Star Spangled Banner but the over has hit in the last four Super Bowls with Chris Stapleton as well as the duo of Jazmine Sullivan and Eric Church going over two minutes in their performances.

On the plus side though, you don’t have to know Jon Batiste’s back catalogue to get an idea on his performances because it’ll all come down to how he wants to play it.

This one could push Alicia Keys’ 2:36 effort from 12 years ago, coincidentally the last time the big game was in New Orleans.

As for the players to be shown during the anthem, most of these markets are 50-50 shots at the discretion of the tv director, so lets jump on the underdogs here,

  • National Anthem (Including Instrument) over 120.5 Seconds @ $1.60
  • Coach to be Shown First During Anthem: Andy Reid @ $1.90
  • Quarterback to be Shown First During Anthem: Jalen Hurts @ $2.00
  • Player to be Shown First During Anthem: Saquon Barkley @ $2.00
Halftime Show

I could go on and (and on) about Kendrick Lamar and his likely set list but that would be doing an a disservice to Kendrick’s biggest fan in the content team Liam.

Check our his halftime show predictions here.

As you might have noticed, some of the prices have changed a bit since that was recorded, but here are a couple of his best bets to roll with.

  • First Song: Squabble Up @ $2.50
  • Special Guest: Baby Keem @ $1.40
  • Total Songs: Over 10.5 @ $1.70
  • Last Song: All The Stars @ $3.00
Postgame

There is no market more important in the Super Bowl than the Gatorade shower colour.

Who cares how many yards Saquon Barkley will run for, it doesn’t matter if Patrick Mahomes throws two, three or four touchdowns or if someone pulls the string on Travis Kelce’s back to make him recite his normal Beastie Boys line.

Purple has been the colour of choice for Kansas City over the last two years, perhaps in part because of all the Gatorade flavours, it is the worst and there was plenty leftover.

That is favoured in the Neds market at publish, but there is some value to be had in the outsiders here.

When the Chiefs won in February 2020, they went with the orange and Blue has also been the choice three times in the last six years.

However none of those three times were by Kansas City so let’s take the throwback choice of orange.

As for when it occurs, if you like Kansas City to win, chances are the will go down to the final play, as most of their games have this season.

Which makes the $2.20 on offer for it to come after the final whistle a decent value bet.

And in a true bit of false modesty, the MVP will thank his teammates before anyone else before going on and on about how awesome they are.

  • Orange Gatorade Shower @ $3.50
  • Gatorade Bath Before Final Whistle (No) @ $2.20
  • MVP Thanks Teammates First @ $3.00
