Futurity Stakes
Looking for early this year’s Futurity Stakes betting odds, tips and field? The expert tipsters at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.
Run over 1,400 metres in late February as part of Blue Diamond Stakes Day, the Futurity Stakes is a Group 1 race, traditionally held at Caulfield Racecourse.
Offering a $750,000 prize purse as of 2023, the event is one of three elite level races at the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival meeting that is headlined by the two-year-olds running in the Group 1 $2 million Blue Diamond Stakes.
The Futurity Stakes is a weight-for-age event and serves as a nice next-up option for horses out of the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes held at the same track and distance a fortnight earlier. Black Heart Bart (2017) and Mr Brightside (2024) are the latest runners to complete the CF Orr – Futurity Stakes double in the same year.
The best out of the Futurity Stakes may continue onto the now Group 1 The All-Star Mile (1600m) held at various racetracks throughout Melbourne in March.
In 2023 the All-Star Mile was won by Mr Brightside who came off a second in the Futurity Stakes results and went on to win the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) in Sydney as well that autumn.
Mr Brightside won the 2024 Futurity Stakes on his way to second in that year’s All-Star Mile quinella.

Which Horse Will Win The Futurity Stakes in 2025
The best way to pick which horse will win the Futurity Stakes in 2025 is to take into account their lead-up autumn racing form, assess the barriers, consider the weight the horse will carry and look for past performers over the 1400m at the track.
Additional factors to consider when picking the Futurity Stakes winner include:
- CF Orr Stakes – The placegetters out of the CF Orr Stakes run a fortnight earlier make an excellent bet in the Futurity. Mr Brightside (2024) was the last horse to do the double over the 1400m at Caulfield.
- Last Start Winners – Horses coming off a lead-up win have dominated the recent Futurity Stakes results. Alligator Blood (2023) who won first-up having saluted in the Group 1 Champions Mile the spring prior followed by CF Orr winner Mr Brightside (2024) are the latest last start winners to take out the Futurity.
- Barriers – Few Futurity Stakes winners have jumped from wider than barrier nine over the event’s history.
Futurity Stakes Favourites 2025
Early favourites in 2025 Futurity Stakes betting include the defending champion Mr Brightside, last winter’s Kingsford Smith Cup champ I Wish I Win, and the Ciaron Maher trained Street Boss gelding Another Wil.
Alizee ($2.80 in 2019) followed by Probabeel ($3.50EF in 2021), Alligator Blood ($2.80 in 2023), and Mr Brightside ($1.50 in 2024) are the latest Futurity Stakes favourites to win.
