Group 1 racing heads back to Caulfield this Saturday with one of the most wide-open editions of the Memsie Stakes<\/a> set to play out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several other spring hopefuls will look to build towards bigger races in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes<\/a> and The Heath<\/a>, while punters will need to navigate another wet track with rain earlier in the week leaving the track rated a Soft 7. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rail is out four metres across the track, so the speed map will be key with those landing on speed potentially favoured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mare to Capitalist was a long way back over the track and trip two weeks ago in a\u00a0similar fillies\u00a0and\u00a0mares\u00a0race, eventually angling four-wide into the straight where she let down well to grab third in a good go for the line.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She\u2019s\u00a0third-up now and\u00a0a previous\u00a0winner at this stage of her prep. The blinkers going on for the first time should help her in the early\u00a0stages\u00a0and\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0drawn to find plenty of cover this time from barrier six.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She finished a long way back at Flemington over the mile fresh from a spell, but keep in mind she came out and ran third in\u00a0a Group\u00a02 at\u00a0Morphettville\u00a0to wrap up her autumn prep over\u00a03200m.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This distance is still short of her best, but\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0handled wet tracks well in the past and gets the added class of Blake Shinn in the saddle. Fitter and likely to settle in the front half,\u00a0she\u2019ll\u00a0be hard to run down when it counts.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0lightly-raced\u00a0five-year-old was given a peach of a ride by Jamie Melham two weeks ago over the mile, settling third-last in the\u00a0early stages, before winding up with a big run down the outside to punch nearly two lengths clear.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He went past some good horses like Light Infantry Man on his way home and seemed to still have a lot left to give through the line. Third-up, over further,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0no reason to hop off him.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CRUSIERWEIGHT (19)<\/strong> has been given another week to prepare after being scratched ahead of last week\u2019s meeting at Sandown.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This talented four-year-old trained by the Hayes boys saw his unbeaten run end at Caulfield four weeks ago when he went down as the\u00a0favourite,\u00a0overracing\u00a0early and never really adjusting to a tempo that\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0suit.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To his credit, he\u00a0plugged on\u00a0fairly to finish fourth, but after being caught wide early without cover and forced to settle closer to the speed, this looks like a much more winnable assignment fourth-up with an encouraging jump out win between runs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Providing the\u00a0scratchings\u00a0go his way and he earns a spot in the field as an\u00a0emergency;\u00a0he\u2019ll\u00a0be hard to beat.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SHADHAVAR (6)<\/strong> looks to have returned a treat for Tom Dabernig and connections.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Pride\u00a0Of\u00a0Dubai mare was fast into stride two weeks ago on her way to taking out the Regal Roller over the track\/trip, clinging to the rail the whole way and really knuckling down late to hold off Persian Spirit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I thought she was only fair to the line over her final few strides, but this is arguably a more winnable race now back against her own sex. After improving significantly second-up last time in work to a Stakes race at Morphettville by a length, I think she\u2019s tough to beat again in this year’s Courtza Stakes<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not a whole lot has gone right for him over the last six months or so, notably finishing down the order in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap<\/a> earlier in the\u00a0autumn where he was beaten four lengths.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That said, he flies fresh and has jumped out well leading into his return, so\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0every reason to believe he can bounce back.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resuming over\u00a01700m\u00a0is the big query around the McEvoy-trained French import, especially with just one start to his name between now and last October.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The son to Dubawi made the journey down\u00a0under in\u00a0time for the Brisbane Winter Carnival, finishing runner-up on debut in the Listed Wayne Wilson to War Eternal.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ciaron Maher\u2019s gelding kept coming with a big run down the outside after settling in behind the speed, lengthening to beat Home Rule where he was strong through the line.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a stiffer test, but his wet track form gets a big\u00a0tick,\u00a0and\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0got a soft gate and next to no weight working in his\u00a0favour.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
