Despite ranking 16th in scoring this season, the focus for the Broncos will be on bolstering their pack in terms of both quality and depth over the next two seasons. Getting Xavier Willison inked is priority No.1 while they would be well-served in getting Ben Talty to ink a lower-end deal. The club simply has too many hookers so a decision likely needs to be made over Billy Walters and the oft-injured Blake Mozer. Ben Hunt will likely retire after his contract runs out at the end of 2027. Finding a quality edge will be a high priority. Shawn Blore is talking to the club but is more a depth option. Hudson Young is unlikely to leave Canberra but Kulikefu Finefuiaki and Connelly Lemuelu both live in Brisbane and Briton Nikora has family on the Gold Coast. One player the club should sign immediately is Jacob Halangahu with the young Dragon blocked from playing time by a highly talented young pack that all play big minutes. Canberra are cleaning out their roster with Corey Horsburgh linked to an immediate move to Brisbane, Jayden Brailey expected to be announced as joining the Tigers in 2027 and Sebastian Kris rumoured to be moving to the Warriors. The most pressing need will be finding a middle. Xavier Willison would be the dream but is highly unlikely to escape the clutches of Brisbane. Moses Leota is far more realistic while lower end options like Max King, Fonua Pole and Lipoi Hopoi would do a job. The Raiders desperately need a yardage winger and could potentially land Selwyn Cobbo or Paul Alamoti with a godfather offer but whether that is the best use of their cap is another matter entirely. Jethro Rinakama or Christian Tuipulotu certainly fill that need at a more budget rate. Fletcher Hunt is one player who should be firmly on the Raiders radar – he has upside, he is on the cheaper end, he grew up in regional NSW and has played in a provincial city. The only worry about landing him is the departure of Dane Gagai from the Knights, which opens up a spot for him in Newcastle.<\/p>\n <\/div> \n <\/div> \n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

\nBiggest Need:<\/strong> Hooker – Canterbury do not have a single first grade hooker on the roster this year and have added just Freddy Lussick next season.

Canterbury\u2019s spine is as weak as any in the NRL with the Bulldogs needing solutions at hooker, fullback and halfback. The latter could be filled with highly-touted youngsters Mitchell Woods or Alex Conti. Alternatively the Bulldogs could make a big-money play to get Zane Harrison away from the Titans and back the future to be a Harrison-Galvin halves pairing. The market is set to be flush with hookers and the Bulldogs really need to invest in a quality one. Wayde Egan is the best player available and may look to move back to Australia while Sam Healey is the best young hooker who does not have a starting role. Blake Mozer is a particularly interesting target given how many rakes are in front of him in Brisbane and how highly he is touted. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is highly unlikely to leave the Dolphins but Will Kennedy always seems to be available.<\/p>\n <\/div> \n <\/div> \n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

\nBiggest Need:<\/strong> Middle Depth – The Sharks have three fringe props who they will need to make a call on but they will likely be in the market for a cheaper middle. Cameron McInnes is also heading to Super League.
\nSecondary Need:<\/strong> Utility Back – Siosifa Talakai has moved to Perth while Mawene Hiroti remains unsigned.

Cronulla have one of the most stable roster situations in the NRL and we should not expect a lot of movement with the majority of starters likely to stay. The most interesting situations with the Sharks are what they do with their two star edges and their fullback. All could easily be re-signed and recent history suggest the Sharks will do just that. That would leave them little cap room to move. They will be looking for a middle and Chris Randall would be the perfect cheap replacement for Cameron McInnes. Ben Talty would be another cheap middle that would bolster the squad. The Sharks will be looking for some depth at outside back with Tommy Talau and Brian Kelly looking like the best fits.<\/p>\n <\/div> \n <\/div> \n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The simple reality is that the Dolphins have really mismanaged their roster allowing so many stars to come off after the 2027 season and their fight will not be in bringing players to the club but in protecting the quality roster they have built. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Herbie Farnworth are the two most important re-signings with the former likely to stay and the latter looking increasingly likely to depart. The two edges also need to be priorities as will Jack Bostock and Selwyn Cobbo. The Dolphins market attacks though will very much be reactive to player losses. The expectation is that the Dolphins won\u2019t be in the market for high end targets but if they were Paul Alamoti would be the best fit at centre while Xavier Willison would be an elite prop signing. More likely signings will be at the level of Sam McIntyre, Ben Talty or Sam Tuivait at prop and Hayden Buchanan in the centres.<\/p>\n <\/div> \n <\/div> \n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

\nCan Move On:<\/strong> Moeaki Fotuaika – Fotuaika\u2019s contract is utterly ridiculous and the Titans should be showing him the door if he demands anywhere near that again.
\nBiggest Need:<\/strong> Wing – The Titans have let all their talented wingers walk over the last few seasons and need to reload quickly.
\nSecondary Need:<\/strong> Middles – Outside of Tino the Titans are lacking woefully in middle forwards.

The primary focus for the Gold Coast Titans needs to be signing halfback Zane Harrison. There is a dearth of halfbacks available and Harrison has shown enough to suggest he will cut it in the NRL. The Titans have been hamstrung by some bad contracts to forwards in recent years. David Fifita is gone and Mo Fotuaika should be next. Gold Coast are desperate for class and speed out wide so need to really fork out for a quality three-quarter. Jack Bostock is unlikely but Selwyn Cobbo and Xavier Savage could be tempted by the right offer with Savage, in particular, not being given a lot of love in the capital. Fletcher Hunt would be a very astute signing given his upside while the likes of Tyrone Munro and Jethro Rinakama would be upgrades on the wing. The Titans also desperately need to bolster their pack. They will hope to re-sign hooker Ollie Pascoe and their starting edges are set but outside of Tino there is a need for an upgrade in middles. Xavier Willison might be the most attractive player on the market but is highly unlikely to go to the Titans for an acceptable price. The likes of J\u2019maine Hopgood and Corey Horsburgh are more realistic in terms of both price and being Queenslanders playing south of the Tweed. Josh King is a reliable type but seems settled in Melbourne. Ben Talty would be a value signing if they could land him while the likes of Kalani Going and Lipoi Hopoi could value add as opportunity seekers.<\/p>\n <\/div> \n <\/div> \n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

\nManly as he did at the Tigers and is now blocking two much-hyped talents.
\nBiggest Need:<\/strong> Hooker – The Sea Eagles have just rotated through below average hookers. With plenty hitting the market, they need to land one.
\nSecondary Need:<\/strong> Forwards – Manly\u2019s pack is the weakest in the NRL with the exception of Haumole Olakau\u2019atu so they need to bolster that immediately.

Manly\u2019s ability to land a big target has certainly increased with the sacking of Anthony Seibold and the appointment of Kieran Foran but the Sea Eagles setup and financials still really works against the club. The good news is that the Trbojevics will re-sign. Tom is the heart of the club, Ben has improved and well, Jake is a body. They have absolutely no option but to upgrade their pack though. They added Warriors prospect Kayliss Fatialofa and should be going all out for Dragons talent Jacob Halangahu. Xavier Willison and Stefano Utoikamanu are unlikely to move to Manly but the likes of Moses Leota and Spencer Leniu would not be out of reach while Max King would be a good fit. Tallis Duncan is an optimistic chase but a player that Manly could build around as would Liam Martin. Hooker is a desperate need for Manly even though Jake Simpkin is signed until the end of 2028. Wayde Egan would be a heavy investment but one Manly need while they would benefit from a creative hooker with some attacking chops – see Sam Healey, Blake Mozer and Ollie Pascoe as the best options.<\/p>\n <\/div> \n <\/div> \n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

\nMust Re-Sign:<\/strong> Xavier Coates – Wingers are rarely game changers but Coates is such a weapon in the air that he opens up the field for the Storm attack, something they have desperately missed this season.
\nCan Move On:<\/strong> Cameron Munster – He turns 32 in the offseason and has not played effectively in a long time. It would be a major call and the Storm won\u2019t disrespect him by cutting him loose but they have already signalled that he is free to negotiate elsewhere.
\nBiggest Need:<\/strong> Centres – The Storm have major turnover coming in their three-quarter line with Xerri and Isaako in and Warbrick, Meaney and others leaving but really need a class centre.
\nSecondary Need:<\/strong> Edges – The edges have been a complete debacle for the Storm this season, particularly defensively, and the concern over Eli Katoa\u2019s future means Melbourne need to be investing in edges.

We are looking at a significant roster turnover for the Storm over the next 18 months – and there is plenty of uncertainty with those who may stay due to some serious and unusual incidents. The key decision the Storm will need to make is whether they move on from Cameron Munster. Decisions also need to be made over whether Stefano Utoikamanu is worth his hefty pay cheque. Expect the Storm to move on a ton of fringe players while building around Harry Grant, Jahrome Hughes, Sua Fa\u2019alogo and some trustworthy players. Depth and class at centre is needed. Rocco Berry is reportedly on the verge of signing but chasing a bigger name is not off the cards. Campbell Graham is eminently gettable while Paul Alamoti must be in play. Finding at least one star edge and a few more for depth is necessary. They should be all in Tallis Duncan but plenty of options are out there. One suspects Craig Bellamy would get the best out of Matty Nicholson, who is likely the cheapest of the high-end targets. Tyson Frizell is at the backend of his career but would add some much-needed veteran leadership. Nat Butcher is highly reliable. The Storm are renowned for taking on reclamation projects and Kelma Tuilagi would be a perfect fit who would improve sharply at Melbourne.<\/p>\n <\/div> \n <\/div> \n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

\nMust Re-Sign:<\/strong> Bradman Best – Best is not the best centre in the game but he is a great fit at the Knights and there will be no better fit on the market the Knights could pull in.
\nCan Move On:<\/strong> Jacob Saifiti – The Knights have some talented young props coming through and the Saifiti asking price is likely a luxury that the club does not need.
\nBiggest Need:<\/strong> Lock – Newcastle are building out a good roster but a hardworking lock with some ball-playing skills would help alleviate the pressure on the halves.
\nSecondary Need:<\/strong> Hooker – The club is committed to Phoenix Crossland until the end of 2028 but will either bring in a backup or play him at lock if they can bring in a creative No.9.

Newcastle really don\u2019t need to do a lot in the market on November 1 with their holes able to be filled by extending their players. Fletcher Hunt and Mat Croker should both get contract extensions as they are both excellent value. Bradman Best and Dom Young are both high-end outside backs who probably don\u2019t want to leave. Marata Niukore adds some punch and flexibility to the forwards. The club would probably be best served moving on from Jacob Saifiti unless he is prepared to take a downgrade on his $700,000 per season deal. There will not be a lot of cap room for the Knights to go hard with so many big-money deals already locked in so the likes of Victor Radley or J\u2019maine Hopgood would be the level they could spend too at lock. There are cheaper options too that centre more on opportunity or looking to get out of bad situations – Ben Talty, Fonua Pole, Caleb Navale, Kalani Going, Kai O\u2019Donnell. The market is flush with backup hookers so pushing for someone like Blake Mozer could net a result.<\/p>\n <\/div> \n <\/div> \n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

\nBiggest Need:<\/strong> Half – Luke Metcalf is gone and the Warriors will likely find out next season that Tanah Boyd and Te Maire Martin are not the answers.

The Warriors have a fairly stable roster situation with no hugely pressing needs and plenty of depth across the board. The big chase the Warriors will put in is for Nathan Cleary. While the Warriors are long odds to get the Penrith star out of Sydney\u2019s west, they are not hopeless with his brother there and his father leaving the Penrith coaching gig. The Warriors aren\u2019t desperate for a half but would entertain a youngster with major upside like Zane Harrison and Mitchell Woods while Matt Burton would fit well too as the Warriors could also use a quality centre. Prop is one issue – and the area the Warriors could splash with Mitch Barnett departing. Moses Leota would be the best fit, reuniting with former prop partner James Fisher-Harris, while Xavier Willison would be the dream. Fonua Pole is the best value target at prop. The biggest internal question comes at hooker where the Warriors have elite rake Wayde Egan and the highly promising Sam Healey. Taulagi looks surplus to needs given the signing of Sione Katoa so it would not shock to see him depart. Expect the Cowboys to be in the market for a prop enforcer so the likes of Tom Flegler, Spencer Leniu and Moses Leota will all be of interest. Another half with experience is also needed. Matt Burton would be a perfect fit and Blaize Talagi would be a most interesting proposition. Few rosters are in as much flux as that of the Eels. Jason Ryles needs to land some big name forwards and outside backs or he is dead in the water with the narrative already turning on him. The likes of Tallis Duncan, Stefano Utoikamanu, Moses Leota and Victor Radley all need to be hit hard as do outside backs Selwyn Cobbo, Murray Taulagi, Paul Alamoti and Campbell Graham. Landing two or three top end talents can be supplemented by the likes of underutilised players Jeral Skelton, Fletcher Hunt and Tevita Naufahu. Tyson Frizell would add some much-needed veteran experience. The Eels activity in the recruitment market though will be highly dependent on how much faith the current administration has in the current roster. Given Penrith have been so good at keeping who they have really needed this decade then they will likely ink all of them unless they determine one surplus to needs. Moses Leota is one that will move on. Xavier Willison would be the dream replacement but looks set to stay in Brisbane. Fonua Pole would be an ideal cheaper replacement. Finding a No.6 would be the top priority. They have one of the brightest young packs in the game with the Couchman brothers, Hamish Stewart, Loko Pasifika-Tonga and Dylan Egan all locked away while Jacob Halangahu is reportedly close to inking a new deal. The addition of Keon Koloamatangi gives the Dragons one of the best packs in the game. The spine has been completely rebuilt too with Scott Drinkwater, Kodi Nikorima, Luke Metcalf and Connor Watson all in line to start next year with Jacob Liddle to play a role at hooker. That leaves the focus on the three-quarter line. While the club would love to attract the likes of Selwyn Cobbo and Paul Alamoti, both would likely cost too much. Look for the Dragons to find a mix of experienced veterans like Tommy Talau and Brian Kelly, young talent with experience like Deine Mariner and Tyrone Munro and prospects starting out their top grade journey like Fletcher Hunt and Brian Pouniu. The future of the South Sydney roster is very much in their own hands with only seven players currently inked for the 2028 season. There are players off contract who are almost certain to stay. Cody Walker, at his age, is a year-to-year proposition who is highly unlikely to walk away from Souths. Latrell Mitchell is a highly valued player both on and off the field at Souths who will re-sign unless the gap in money is too big, which it won\u2019t be. One would expect Souths to do everything they can to keep Tallis Duncan while Campbell Graham and Brandon Smith are likely to be highly valued. David Fifita chases the money but seems more likely than not to stay at Souths. On the flip side, Peter Mamouzelous and Isaiah Tass have been told they can walk while the likes of Ed Kosi, Jayden Sullivan, Adam Elliott and Bronson Garlick will depart. The interesting one is Jack Wighton. There is no way Souths keep him on his current money but how far he is willing to drop his asking price will determine his future. The salary cap is open though and it allows them to chase big names. Landing Nathan Cleary would be the dream but is big odds to happen. Zane Harrison is a far more realistic chance while it would not surprise if Te Maire Martin or Brad Schneider was added in. Another prop would be ideal. Xavier Willison is likely asking too much but the likes of Tom Flegler, J\u2019maine Hopgood or Josh King could all find themselves at Redfern. The Sydney Roosters have some of their biggest names coming off contract but are highly unlikely to lose any of them. Sam Walker is close to inking a long-term extension. Veterans James Tedesco and Daniel Tupou are at an age where they will likely just negotiate year-to-year. Daly Cherry-Evans will retire. Billy Smith is highly likely to remain loyal to a club that has shown so much loyalty to him through injury. The biggest name who could realistically depart is Victor Radley while Spencer Leniu is expected to sign elsewhere. The Roosters are likely to do what they normally do in the market and make a splash. Dolphins centre Herbie Farnworth is on their radar and is reportedly close to signing. If he doesn\u2019t go to Bondi, Bradman Best or Paul Alamoti will be next cabs off the rank. The Roosters are also after an edge. They went hard at local junior Jacob Preston but have reportedly missed out on the Bulldog. They would be a big chance though if landing one of Samuela Fainu, Jeremiah Nanai, Kulikefu Finefuiaki or Matty Nicholson. Attracting elite talent is a major worry for the Tigers and wont get easier with Jarome Luai leaving and the drama that has engulfed the club this season. The Tigers desperately need to add some halves talent. Zane Harrison will be hot property and the Tigers are unlikely to appeal but should be their main target. Matt Burton, Cameron Munster and Blaize Talagi are all eminently more gettable while Jamie Humphreys would be a most astute get. Murray Taulagi would add to the Tigers while they will need to add in a few of the likes of Jordan Samrani, Deine Mariner, Christian Tuipulotu or Jack Howarth.
