The nine-race program is stacked with black-type contests, headlined by the $3 million Group 1 Ladbrokes Stradbroke Handicap. Last-start Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup winner Headley Grange has been installed as the early favourite in what shapes as a deep sprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Kensington over 1400m, he charged home after being held up to score by 2.95 lengths.<\/p>\n

He then produced an even more impressive performance at Rosehill on heavy ground, putting his rivals away by 1.86 lengths.<\/p>\n

That effort suggested he is looking for 1600m, which he gets here at peak fitness.<\/p>\n

The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained gelding had his winning hopes undone in the Group 1 Doomben Cup when a move to improve down the back straight proved costly, but he still stuck on gamely to finish fourth, beaten 4.18 lengths, with Vauban finishing just in front of him.<\/p>\n

Fourth-up is typically when he hits top gear, as seen last campaign when he claimed the Group 1 Caulfield Cup, so timing is ideal.<\/p>\n
