Stradbroke Season builds towards another major highlight this Saturday, with Queensland Oaks Day set to take centre stage at Eagle Farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A strong nine-race program is headlined by the Group 1 Queensland Oaks, where the nation\u2019s leading three-year-old staying fillies clash over 2200m in a searching test of stamina and class. The race has a reputation for identifying future stars, and this year\u2019s renewal appears no exception with a deep and competitive lineup engaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Group 2 Ladbrokes Moreton Cup<\/a> provides key support to the feature, serving as an important lead-in to next week\u2019s Group 1 Ladbrokes Stradbroke Handicap<\/a> and adding further intrigue for punters and connections. The program is further strengthened by a quality set of Listed races, including the Spear Chief Handicap, Queensland Day Stakes, Show A Heart Stakes and Lightning Handicap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Ladbrokes Stradbroke Day approaching, this meeting shapes as a crucial form reference, with some runners aiming to peak at the right time while others look to announce themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CAVALRY MAN (17)<\/strong> was unlucky not to win over 1600m at Doomben last start.<\/p>\n

The Lindsay Gough-trained gelding enjoyed a soft run just off the speed and travelled strongly into the race, but he encountered multiple roadblocks at a crucial stage and only got clear late, finishing hard for a 1.14-length fourth.<\/p>\n

He will appreciate getting out in distance and has an excellent record over this course and distance, with two wins and a third from four starts.<\/p>\n

His most recent win came five runs back over this track and trip, where he also recorded a track record.<\/p>\n

Rachel King replaces Jordan Childs and from a favourable draw with a light weight, he gets every chance.<\/p>\n

It was always going to be difficult for NOW IS THE HOUR (9)<\/strong> after drawing the outside barrier last start, but he still produced a strong effort.<\/p>\n

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding was forced to cover ground throughout, racing three-wide and over-racing at stages, yet still stuck on well to finish 1.61 lengths third.<\/p>\n

He returns to Eagle Farm where he has an excellent record, boasting two wins and a third from four attempts over this course and distance.<\/p>\n

A much kinder draw this time should allow Tommy Berry to settle closer in the run.<\/p>\n

After putting together back-to-back benchmark wins, the Michael Freedman-trained gelding stepped up in grade to take out the Bat Out Of Hell at the Gold Coast, defeating previous winner Steady Ready.<\/p>\n

He then showed his determination last start in the Listed Chief De Beers, overcoming an outside barrier to score again.<\/p>\n

Jamie Melham remains unbeaten aboard him and should have him positioned just off what looks a genuine speed.<\/p>\n

That was her second victory at the mile this preparation, having also won second-up in the Group 3 Aspirational Quality at Randwick.<\/p>\n

She was six weeks between runs last start and should take improvement from that effort.<\/p>\n

She meets many of the same runners better at the weights and Ben Melham gets his chance from a low draw.<\/p>\n

Following that win, she has trialled and produced a pleasing effort while working comfortably.<\/p>\n

She also brings two Group 3 victories into this race and is well weighted, sitting 12 rating points clear of her nearest rival.<\/p>\n
