All eyes turn to Royal Randwick this Saturday as Day 2 of The Championships promises another elite afternoon of racing, with fine weather forecast and the track likely to be in the Good range.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting is headlined by four Group 1 features that showcase the very best of Australian racing across a variety of distances.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staying talent takes centre stage in both the Australian Oaks and the Sydney Cup<\/a>, while the milers and weight-for-age stars collide in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes<\/a> and the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Stakes<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Queen Elizabeth Stakes looms as the highlight of the afternoon, with unbeaten star Autumn Glow looking to continue her march to being one of the very best horses that Australia has seen. Stepping onto the grand stage with her perfect record on the line, she faces a stiff test against proven Group 1 performers like Aeliana, Dubai Honour and Sir Delius. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a disappointing edition of the Listed Fernhill Mile with just three of the 11 runners having won a race.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SUMAC (8)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0is still a maiden but has improved with each run after a disappointing\u00a0last\u00a0when\u00a0debuting\u00a0in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes\u00a0where\u00a0she suffered from the thumps and poor\u00a0recover.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following that, she\u00a0fought on\u00a0for third after losing a plate at\u00a0Wyong\u00a0before hitting the line hard after being held up to finish 2.1 lengths fifth in the\u00a0Group 3 Balieu.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Given how strong the Lee Curtis-trained filly was through the line, the rise to\u00a01600m\u00a0looks ideal.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

REGAL AWARD (4)\u00a0<\/span><\/b>endured a tough run when resuming in the Listed Darby Munro Stakes and\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0expecting him to improve significantly second-up.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Phillip\u00a0Stokes-trained gelding found himself three-deep without cover\u00a0for the most part of\u00a0the\u00a01200m\u00a0contest but still\u00a0fought on\u00a0bravely to finish 3.5 lengths seventh.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019ll\u00a0appreciate the rise in distance and won his only\u00a0previous\u00a0second-up race which was over a similar trip on the Hillside track last preparation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A tongue tie goes on for the first\u00a0time\u00a0and he should enjoy a much better run.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She made\u00a0She\u2019s\u00a0Extra look ordinary in second and that horse had spaced her rivals in her two\u00a0previous\u00a0races.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now in the care of Nacim Dilmi, the son of Maurice put on a clinic in the Hawkesbury qualifier last start where\u00a0he had lengths on rivals and stylishly powered to the line.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019s\u00a0since been back to the trials where he produced a pleasing piece of work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chris Waller-trained filly came wide on the turn and battled strongly but being five weeks between runs against fitter horses\u00a0told\u00a0and\u00a0she finished just under a length fourth.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The former Kiwi brought excellent form with her including the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks so the rise to\u00a02400m\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0faze\u00a0her.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

James McDonald sticks and will give her every chance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While she was able to win that race over\u00a01400m, I think Ciaron Maher has pulled the right\u00a0rein\u00a0dropping her back to 1200m\u00a0given she was tiring late.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She loves this course and distance having won three of four\u00a0starts\u00a0including first-up this preparation with her only loss being a second to the world\u2019s best sprinter Ka Ying Rising in The Everest<\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Street Boss filly looked super winning a recent\u00a0trial,\u00a0and that will have tuned her up nicely.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following a wide run first-up at Flemington over a mile, Team Hayes\u00a0successfully adopted a change of tactics that resulted in a 1.95 length victory.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u00a0an unusual setup stepping up to two miles third-up off a\u00a01900m\u00a0race, but she was pulling away from them in the final\u00a0furlong\u00a0and her\u00a0CV shows wins shows back-to-back wins in the WA Oaks and the WATC Derby<\/a>, both over\u00a02400m.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She gets in with\u00a0the\u00a0postage stamp weight of 51kg.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

LADY SHENANDOAH (2)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0had the misfortune of running into Autumn Glow last start in the Group 1 George Ryder\u00a0Stakes\u00a0so it was no wonder she was in a mood prior to the race.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To her credit, she found the line well to finish 3.61 lengths fourth.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chris Waller-trained\u00a0mare\u2019s\u00a0form was good prior to that with back-to-back third placings to the flying\u00a0Joliestar.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She won her only\u00a0previous\u00a0race over this course and distance by a\u00a0space\u00a0which was the Group 1 Flight Stakes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With Pride\u00a0Of\u00a0Jenni in the race, there will be no shortage of speed and that will aid her and James McDonald\u2019s cause.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chris Waller-trained mare was simply\u00a0amazing\u00a0last start in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes where she produced her devastating turn of foot to put her rivals away quickly and\u00a0win by 2.79\u00a0lengths.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is her first attempt at\u00a02000m\u00a0which is obviously a query, but\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0had plenty of work since last start and\u00a0has an extreme will to win.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

James McDonald will give her\u00a0the run of the\u00a0race.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Team Hawkes-trained mare worked over from an outside barrier to settle second before dashing clear late to win by just under a length.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She then put up an almighty fight in the Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes where she was forced to work from the wide gate and was entitled to weaken\u00a0with the massive weight disadvantage\u00a0but\u00a0instead, she lifted to finish a neck second.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0wide\u00a0barrier\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0ideal,\u00a0but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0something\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0used\u00a0to\u00a0and\u00a0we get the services of James McDonald to\u00a0navigate any trouble.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
