Caulfield hosts a ten-race program for the second straight Saturday, with the Group 3 Chairman\u2019s Stakes<\/a> taking top billing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two-year-old dash looms as an early form reference for the Group 1 Blue Diamond<\/a>, while the Bellmaine Stakes<\/a> looks a genuine betting race, with plenty of chances among the mares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After last week’s heat wave, we should have kinder conditions for racing with the track rated a Good 4 and the rail out four metres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She\u2019s been a punish for punters over the last month or so, flirting with the winner\u2019s circle on back-to-back occasions at Cranbourne and Flemington over the same trip.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Patrick Moloney has a bit of a feel for the mare now after stalking the speed four-wide a couple of weeks ago on his way to finishing within half\u00a0a\u00a0length of the talented Saint George.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Drawn well again in a small\u00a0field,\u00a0she only needs to hold that form to go one better.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CASTELLAR (2)<\/strong> gets Craig Williams on board following a pleasing effort off a long spell at Flemington last time out.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The four-year-old son to Astern had been off the scene for close to a year, trialing twice and then laying in around the\u00a0300m\u00a0mark to hold on late for third in a similar BM70 race.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019s had a few issues off the track in recent times, but everything indicates he\u2019s bounced back well, and his best is yet to come.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t\u00a0love the gate, but this is\u00a0a very interesting\u00a0race for the unbeaten TARZING (11)<\/strong> third-up for Chris Waller.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The son to Tarzino has dominated the midweeks over the last four weeks, winning by over a length on debut at Seymour, before another impressive win at Geelong a fortnight ago where he was forced to shift out wide at the top of the straight.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is tougher\u00a0again up\u00a0in class, but he finds a fairly thin race with a few of these out form and potentially looking for further.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0no jockey booked as I write, but he\u00a0possesses\u00a0a serious turn of foot, which should be on display if\u00a0he can offset the wide alley.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

STYLISH SECRET (7)<\/strong> checks a few important boxes here up to\u00a02400m.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mick Nolan\u2019s four-year-old gelding\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0win out of turn, but he should be rock-hard fit for this assignment coming off two solid runs over\u00a02000m\u00a0\u2013 the latest being a gallant effort for third where he stuck on well along the rail all the way through the line.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019s\u00a0a previous\u00a0winner over this distance, claiming the chocolates here at Caulfield last July where there was a good bit of market support for him before the jump.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Deep into his prep now\u00a0and in\u00a0nicely with the claim, he looks well-placed to replicate that effort on Saturday.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

FALSET STAR (4)<\/strong> can mix his form, but his recent efforts do suggest he might be wanting 1800m now.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Payne-trained three-year-old by\u00a0Group 2 winner Valentia has had his runs spaced since December, going around two weeks ago third-up at Headquarters where the inside gate almost went against him when finishing four lengths off.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He was closer the run prior at Cranbourne when he ran on well down the outside for fourth, and we should see him arriving late to have his say with the wide gate\u00a0likely offering\u00a0him\u00a0clearer running room this time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jordan Childs gave him a peach of a steer early on to find a stalking position, quickly pushing the button at the top of the straight to race clear and win with plenty left in hand.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is tougher again, but\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0a colt with real ability and his eyes on much bigger prizes than this.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This mare by Written By was enormous this time last year winning two on the bounce at Caulfield, then given a lengthy 40-week spell before resuming on the Heath track in late December.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She clearly needed that run that day and looked to be wanting further, but I thought we saw good improvement second-up at Flemington in the Group 3 Standish Handicap<\/a> where she got up along the rail, finishing sixth with a bit still to give through the line.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The fitness benefit is key to her chances\u00a0now\u00a0and if\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0closer in the run this time,\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0a definite chance at running top three.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His fresh win at Flemington over 100m shorter was excellent, biding his time nicely just off the pace in the\u00a0early stages\u00a0before apprentice Emily\u00a0Pozman\u00a0asked something of him approaching the furlong.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Written Tycoon entire has incredibly fast changeup speed and maps to get a nice run up on the speed again with the weight and the inside gate working to his advantage.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

MIDNITE STORM (7)<\/strong> has the tricky gate to contend with but there was enough to like about his fresh win over the mile to suggest he\u2019ll handle racing over longer.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ciaron Maher\u2019s talented Irish import got out three-wide and was two lengths off the leaders approaching the\u00a0straight, making up the margin over the final 50m or so to savage the line for a tidy win.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That was just his first run down under, so there\u2019s scope for further improvement as he\u00a0acclimatizes to\u00a0the conditions with some decent second-up form on his resume.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not a race that fills me with confidence to wrap up the day, but\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0still some value about ZOUPER FUND (6)<\/strong>, who returns from\u00a0a\u00a0four-week let-up for Ciaron Maher.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Zoustar\u00a0prodigy was\u00a0extended his\u00a0winning to\u00a0streak to four when he resumed a\u00a0winner\u00a0at Ballarat in early December, then heading to Cranbourne out over\u00a01200m\u00a0where he got a little wide but still charged home very well for third.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019s\u00a0been\u00a0given\u00a0a soft trial between runs to keep him\u00a0fit\u00a0and I dare say\u00a0he\u2019ll\u00a0see out\u00a01400m\u00a0for the first time based on his win over a touch shorter at Sandown to wrap up his winter prep last year.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
