{"id":75692,"date":"2025-07-23T12:19:27","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T02:19:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.neds.com.au\/blog\/?p=75692"},"modified":"2025-07-23T12:19:27","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T02:19:27","slug":"awful-alternate-team-jerseys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.neds.com.au\/blog\/2025\/07\/awful-alternate-team-jerseys\/","title":{"rendered":"Awful Alternate Team Jerseys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the NFL set to unleash its own batch of &#8220;City Connect&#8221; jerseys, it&#8217;s the perfect time to brace ourselves by revisiting the worst alternate uniforms in sports history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because if there&#8217;s one thing we\u2019ve learned, it\u2019s that when leagues try to \u201cconnect with the city,\u201d they often disconnect from good taste entirely.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Pittsburgh Steelers 1933 Throwback Uniforms<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As if to prove my point immediately, the Steelers released a throwback jersey that should be thrown-back\u2026in the bin! (not proud of that)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The jersey is a nod to the 1933 strip that the Steelers wore during the great depression, which is ironic because it&#8217;s giving me depression and probably explains why they didn\u2019t have enough cash to finish the black stripes down the front.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/Tweet.html?id=1947295842152407398&#038;dnt=true&#038;lang=en_AU&#038;width=500&#038;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.neds.com.au%2Fblog%2F2025%2F07%2Fawful-alternate-team-jerseys%2F\" scrolling=\"no\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\" loading=\"lazy\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" style=\"border:0;\" title=\"X Post\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h5><b>Manly Sea Eagles ANZAC jersey<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Great sentiment with the ANZAC Jersey but a bit of a miss with the execution. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These jerseys were meant to represent the camo of the defence forces but unfortunately look more the like Cows than Sea Eagles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/Tweet.html?id=1517739550650806272&#038;dnt=true&#038;lang=en_AU&#038;width=500&#038;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.neds.com.au%2Fblog%2F2025%2F07%2Fawful-alternate-team-jerseys%2F\" scrolling=\"no\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\" loading=\"lazy\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" style=\"border:0;\" title=\"X Post\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h5><b>Colorado Caribous 1978<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Long before the MLS, the short lived Colorado Caribous had probably the single worse jersey you could imagine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The colours scheme for the side was already pretty bad but hey! Why not add a giant collar and some tassels? Hell yeah!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Word is the original design actually had tassels five times the length which had players being slapped in the face during play. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They eventually reduced the size rather than removing them entirely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These jerseys were so bad that the Colorado Rapids threatened their return as an April Fools joke in 2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh and they also made the players walk out wearing cowboys hats too.
