They go through ups and downs like us normal folk, but it\u2019s also in the public eye like those wealthy and hot folk who populate the pages of the tabloids.<\/p>\n<p>In that vein, I\u2019ll tier every club\u2019s relationship with their coach by comparing it to a celebrity couple.<\/p>\n<p>Note that I\u2019m only doing 17 because we don\u2019t know who the West Coast coach will be, we only know that it won\u2019t be Jarrad Schofield.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Honeymoon phase \u2013 Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Sam Mitchell<\/p>\n<p>Adam Kingsley<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re going on tour together. The little ticks are cute rather than annoying.<\/p>\n<p>They dragged their counterpart out of dark places, almost single handedly.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Swift was dating a skinny alcoholic before Travis. GWS finished 16th before Kingsley took over. Has any coach with a regular season winning percentage that is over 60% across an 11 year span every been under this much pressure?<\/p>\n<p>They finished second this year.<\/p>\n<p>If Port wins it all this year, what does Warren Tredrea do on the radio? Or will he be annoyed that he can\u2019t sack him because of yet another successful season?<\/p>\n<p>Is Ken sleeping with every board member\u2019s daughter?<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t understand why every Port power broker and fan seems to hate him so much, despite all the winning.<\/p>\n<p>I know he still hasn\u2019t got the ultimate glory, and regular season success can only mean so much. But still. The level of hatred is insane, particularly given the gutter he dragged them from.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s just like Chris Fagan, who, if you discount his first two years at Brisbane where he was rebuilding the club, boasts a 70% record but also doesn\u2019t have that success.<\/p>\n<p>Having said all of that, if Joe Alwyn wanted to lock it down with Taylor after they were together for years, he should have proposed.<\/p>\n<p>If either Ken or Chris want to keep the jobs that they have had for a long time, and been extremely successful in, they need to put a medal around it or risk being pushed out.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Back with and old flame \u2013 Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez (before divorce proceedings were filed)<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Alastair Clarkson<\/p>\n<p>Ross Lyon<\/p>\n<p>Remember in Arrested Development when Tobias and Lindsay are talking about an open relationship?<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"But it might work for us!\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Po4adxJxqZk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s delusional to think that it would ever work for anybody, but it might work for them.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what I felt about Bennifer 2.0. But Brad Scott has won four finals as a coach in the time that Essendon has been without a finals win.<\/p>\n<p>Both of these clubs are, like Colin Jost, hoping that their more successful partner will have some of their success rub off on them.<\/p>\n<p>However, Colin Jost\u2019s last TV credit (other than SNL) was an episode of The Kardashians and both Gold Coast and Essendon missed finals.<\/p>\n<p>Put simply, it\u2019s not going well.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Why isn\u2019t this better? \u2013 Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Michael Voss<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Nicks<\/p>\n<p>Simon Goodwin<\/p>\n<p>Justin Longmuir<\/p>\n<p>Everything should be good. Young, hot, ascending couple. Look great together when they get papped.<\/p>\n<p>Why isn\u2019t it better?<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how I feel about both Sabrina and Barry, who are now allegedly donezo, and each of these coaches.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/Tweet.html?id=1824447918054514923&#038;dnt=true&#038;lang=en_AU&#038;width=500&#038;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.neds.com.au%2Fblog%2F2024%2F08%2Fthe-afl-coach-commitment-index%2F\" scrolling=\"no\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\" loading=\"lazy\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" style=\"border:0;\" title=\"X Post\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Goodwin is possibly an exception because he has won a premiership, but with the list that he had at his disposal only making one grand final has to be considered a failure. That\u2019s to say nothing of Melbourne\u2019s culture, which is hilariously bad.<\/p>\n<p>Just ask Christian Corp.<\/p>\n<p>If Simon Goodwin was at that caf\u00e9 in Hawthorn instead of Michael Voss, he probably would have jumped in the car with the thieves and asked if they had any bags. At the very least he would have punted on which one got away from Voss \u2013 the skinnier one was paying $1.30.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/Tweet.html?id=1828213855497109718&#038;dnt=true&#038;lang=en_AU&#038;width=500&#038;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.neds.com.au%2Fblog%2F2024%2F08%2Fthe-afl-coach-commitment-index%2F\" scrolling=\"no\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\" loading=\"lazy\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" style=\"border:0;\" title=\"X Post\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The other three don\u2019t have a grand final, and only one even made the finals in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>All have pretty good lists with real top end, superstar talent on them.<\/p>\n<p>Melbourne has their constellation of stars, possibly minus Chef Petracca Corp.<\/p>\n<p>Adelaide has Rankine and a Tippett\/Tex Redux with Fogarty and Thilthorpe.<\/p>\n<p>Carlton has Cripps, Curnow, McKay and the rest of the elite talent Michael Voss is a genius at wasting.<\/p>\n<p>Longmuir has Serong, Young, Brayshaw, Ryan and ascending forwards like and Amiss.<\/p>\n<p>These coaches have everything going for them.<\/p>\n<p>And yet.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Who knows \u2013 Pete Davidson and whoever is next<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Adem Yze<\/p>\n<p>Both Davidson and Richmond bring size to the equation.<\/p>\n<p>Other than that, nothing is certain when it comes to the veracity of either Davidson\u2019s string of rebound \u201cgirlfriends\u201d and Yze\u2019s coaching chops.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/Tweet.html?id=1102587282270445570&#038;dnt=true&#038;lang=en_AU&#038;width=500&#038;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.neds.com.au%2Fblog%2F2024%2F08%2Fthe-afl-coach-commitment-index%2F\" scrolling=\"no\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\" loading=\"lazy\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" style=\"border:0;\" title=\"X Post\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Yze was dealt a raw hand with injuries, but I have serious doubts about how his game style fits into modern footy and especially the current Richmond list. However the list seems to be under renovation so maybe I should give him some time.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, this isn\u2019t the column to air those doubts.
