Formerly known as the Warwick Stakes, the Winx Stakes was renamed in 2018 in honour of heroic mare and four-time Cox Plate<\/a> hero Winx.<\/p>\n

Winx is also the most famous winner of her namesake race. The three-time champion won in 2016 and 2017 when the event was known as the Warwick Stakes and also won the inaugural Winx Stakes in 2018.<\/p>\n

Limerick (1927-29) was the first triple Warwick Stakes winner. Three-time Cox Plate champion Kingston Town also won three straight editions of the Warwick Stakes between 1980-82.<\/p>\n

Jockey\u00a0Darby Munro rode a record six Warwick Stakes winners<\/strong> to victory with Rogilla (1935), Allunga (1937), Beaulivre (1940), Katanga (1943), Removal (1945), and Tarien (1954).<\/p>\n

Last Winx Stakes winning mare<\/strong>: Via Sistina (2024 & 2025).<\/p>\n

Last Winx Stakes winning three-year-old<\/strong>: Trusting (2009).<\/p>\n

Samadoubt holds the current Winx Stakes record<\/strong> winning in 2001 in a time of 1 minute 21:05 seconds.<\/p>\n

Plenty of outstanding thoroughbreds have won the Warwick \/ Winx Stakes including Chatham (1933-34), Tulloch (1957), Super Impose (1990-91), Sunline (1999), and the following year’s Melbourne Cup<\/a> winner Verry Elleegant (2020).<\/p>\n

Trainer Chris Waller has trained eight Winx Stakes winners<\/strong> most recently celebrating his 150th Group 1 success in 2023 with Fangirl who improved on her second behind the subsequently retired Anamoe the year before, while he won again in 2024 with Via Sistina leading a stable trifecta.<\/p>\n

The 2024 Winx Stakes winner was the Chris Waller-trained imported Fastnet Rock mare Via Sistina ($11) <\/strong>who charged late first-up down the middle to beat Zougotcha (2nd) and Fangirl (3rd).<\/p>\n

The 2025 Winx Stakes winner was the defending champion, eight-year-old Fastnet Rock mare Via Sistina ($2.80F) <\/strong>for now nine-time winning trainer Chris Waller with jockey James McDonald aboard on 57kg from barrier 1 to win by 0.36 lengths on a Heavy (10) track in a time of 1:26.02.<\/p>\n

The 2026 Winx Stakes winner is TBC<\/strong> and will be known when the opening Group 1 race of the spring takes place at Royal Randwick on Saturday August 22, 2026.<\/p>\n
