    Chris Waller\u2019s former Kiwi galloper\u00a0Asterix ($16)<\/strong>\u00a0was huge late coming from well back and sixth at the top of the straight to burst through in a peach of a ride by Jason Collett and run down You Whang for an upset victory in the\u00a02026 JRA Plate results<\/strong>. Waller plans to target the Gosford Gold Cup on May 9 with the Tavistock seven-year-old before a potential trip to Brisbane over the winter. Waller also prepared the beaten favourite Travolta who ran a luckless third having gotten out too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The JRA Plate – officially registered as the Japan Racing Association Plate<\/strong> – is a Group 3 quality handicap race contested over 2000m in mid-April on All Aged Stakes Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    One of the final Group races of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, the event is open to all horses aged three-years-old and above and offers $250,000 in prize money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Inaugurated in 1997, the JRA Plate has held Group 3 status since 2017 and has been won by plenty of quality staying types including Tie The Knot (1999) who went on to win the Group 1 Sydney Cup<\/a> over two miles just five days later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Other standout JRA Plate winners include that year’s subsequent Melbourne Cup<\/a> champion Viewed (2008), Herculian Prince (2010), Kelinni (2013), and Tally (2018).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The JRA Plate now serves as a potential lead-up to bigger and better races held during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival including the Group 2 $1.2 million The Q22 <\/a>(2200m).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The 2021 JRA Plate winner Paths Of Glory finished third to Zaaki in that year’s The Q22 results. Zaaki was originally second past the post in the JRA Plate results but was subsequently disqualified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In 2022 the JRA Plate runner-up Numerian won the Gosford Cup – The Q22 double at his next two starts, while the third-placed mare Icebath returned to win the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) at Flemington that spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The 2023 JRA Plate also produced that year’s Doomben Cup<\/a> winner with Huetor improving on his lead-up third in the Sydney event to take out the Group 1 in Brisbane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Dual Doomben Cup champ Huetor returned and won the 2024 JRA Plate in an upset at $15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
