    Albury trainer Kym Davison celebrated her maiden city win with her progressive The Autumn Sun gelding\u00a0Autumn Break ($8)\u00a0<\/strong>showing plenty of fight to narrowly deny Kilman victory in the\u00a02026 ATC Carbine Club Stakes results<\/strong>\u00a0at Randwick. Ridden by Sam Clipperton, Autumn Break came from fifth at the top of the straight getting a great cart into the race before pulling out all the stops to finish hard down the outside for a gutsy photo-finish Group 3 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The ATC Carbine Club Stakes is a Group 3 race for three-year-olds run over 1600m at Royal Randwick on Day 1 of Sydney’s The Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Championships are traditionally held across the opening two Saturdays in April as the highlight of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The ATC Carbine Club Stakes is run on the same day as the Group 1 Doncaster Mile, TJ Smith Stakes, Australian Derby and Inglis Sires’ and attracts a quality line-up of young milers each season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The event offers $250,000 in prize money and was first contested in 1981, gaining Group 3 status in 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The race, like its Melbourne counterpart in the spring, is named in honour of former New Zealand-bred champion Carbine whose CV included victories in the Sydney Cup (1889, 1890) and Melbourne Cup<\/a> (1890).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The 2025 Carbine Club Stakes form well and truly stood up, with winner Evaporate returning for a huge spring that included Group 1 placings in the Toorak Handicap (2nd), the $10 million Golden Eagle (3rd) and the CF Orr (3rd). He then came back the following autumn and added a runner\u2011up finish in the 2026 All\u2011Star Mile<\/a> to his record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
