Run over 1,600 metres, the Queensland Guineas is a Group 2 race taking place at Eagle Farm Racecourse each Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. With an $350,000 prize purse, the event is open to three-year-old horses and was previously contested in June as part of the Stradbroke Handicap Day card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After being cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Queensland Guineas was moved to an early position on the winter schedule from 2021 onwards and now serves as a potential lead-up into the Group 1 Queensland Derby<\/a> (2400m).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kovalica (2023) was the last three-year-old to complete the Queensland Guineas – Derby double<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doomben Racecourse has hosted the Queensland Guineas twice in recent years due to track upgrades at Eagle Farm Racecourse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For 2023 the Queensland Guineas runs on the same day as the Group 1 Australasian Oaks<\/a> (2000m) in Adelaide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Queensland Guineas winner is also now exempt from ballot for the revamped Group 2 The Q22<\/a> (2200m), a WFA event offering $1.2 million and run on Stradbroke Handicap Day replacing the now defunct PJ O’Shea Stakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
