    Apulia <\/strong>($2.50F) delivered a powerhouse performance to claim victory for the punters in the 2025 Ted Van Heemst Stakes results<\/strong> at Ascot on Saturday, producing a stunning last-to-first victory that stamped him as the horse to beat heading into the 2026 Perth Cup<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After settling dead last in the field of 11, jockey William Pike swung the Ben, Will and JD Hayes trained gelding to the outside and let him rip. Apulia unleashed a booming finish, mowing down Hoba West in the final strides to score impressively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Pike admitted the race didn\u2019t unfold as planned \u2014 he\u2019d hoped to be much closer in the run \u2014 but Apulia\u2019s turn of foot made the tactical mishap irrelevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The win now has him firmly on track for the $1 million Perth Cup (2400m) on New Year\u2019s Day<\/strong>, where he is expected to start one of the major players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Run over 2,100 metres, the Ted Van Heemst Stakes is a Group 2 race taking place at Ascot Racecourse in late December as part of the popular Perth Summer Racing Carnival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Following on from the festival’s three Group 1 feature races, the Ted Van Heemst Stakes (formerly run as the C.B. Cox Stakes), offers $300,000 and is a key lead up into the Perth Cup<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It has been won by plenty of good horses over the years including recently Regal Power (2019 and 2021) who won the 2019 Group 1 Railway Stakes and the 2020 The All-Star Mile race in Melbourne and joined his ill-fated stablemate Truly Great (2020) as the most recent winners of the the most recent winner of the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (now Northerly Stakes<\/a>) – Ted Van Heemst Stakes double <\/strong>in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In the 2023-24 Perth Summer Racing season Casino Seventeen improved on a third in the Ted Van Heemst Stakes to win the Perth Cup 2024 on New Year’s Day at his next start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
