The Summer Cup offers $250,000 in prize money and is a quality handicap event.<\/p>\n

The Group 2 $2 million The Ingham Stakes<\/a> (1600m) – formerly the Villiers Stakes – offers a key lead-up into the Summer Cup for horses looking for a little further, and a trip to WA for the popular Group 2 Perth Cup <\/a>(2400m) could be on the cards for the best out of the Sydney Group 3 showdown.<\/p>\n

Horses out of the Summer Cup field may also head to Queensland in January for a shot at the $1 million Magic Millions Trophy<\/a> (2400m) at the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

The 2022 Summer Cup runner-up Sky Lab won the following January’s Magic Millions Trophy next start.<\/p>\n

Despite never changing name, the race distance has changed quite a few times. It has gradually downgraded from 2600 metres, to 2400 metres, down to its current distance of 2000 metres.<\/p>\n
