    Sabaj ($3.30F)\u00a0<\/strong>stormed home to head the\u00a02025 Ladbrokes Cranbourne Cup results<\/strong>\u00a0delivering trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr back-to-back victories in the $500,000 feature. The lightly-raced four-year-old gelding overcame a wide barrier and produced a powerful finishing burst under jockey Beau Mertens to defeat Enxuto and Holymanz by three-quarters of a length. Exploding at the 200m mark, Sabaj hit the front with 100m to go and proved too strong in the run to the line, notching his fifth win from just eight starts and confirming his status as a horse on the rise. The victory marked Price\u2019s fourth Cranbourne Cup success, having previously won with Pakal (2013), Octabello (2018), and Globe (2024), while also giving the stable consecutive Cups following Globe\u2019s triumph last year. Connections now have their sights set on the Group 1 Doncaster Mile in Sydney next autumn, with Price confident Sabaj has plenty more improvement to come and the potential to develop into a genuine Group 1 contender heading into 2026.<\/p>\n\n

    The Cranbourne Cup is a lucrative spring feature race taking place at Cranbourne Racecourse that was previously contested over further earlier but now takes place over a mile in late November.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    In 2021 the Cranbourne Cup distance was reduced to 1600m and the event moved from its previous slot on a Sunday in mid-October to a Saturday in November.<\/p>\n

    Cranbourne Cup Day currently runs on the same date as the $1.5 million Group 1 Railway Stakes<\/a> (1600m) in Perth.<\/p>\n

    With a $500,000 prize purse, it is one of the key features on the Spring Cups circuit and the pride of the Cranbourne Turf Club.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    A Listed race, the Cranbourne Cup is a quality handicap and until 2021 served as a nice lead-up into the bigger spring Cup races including the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) and Group 1 Melbourne Cup<\/a> (3200m).<\/p>\n

    One of the standout Cranbourne Cup winners is On A Jeune (2004) who went on to run second behind three-time champion Makybe Diva in the 2005 Melbourne Cup results.<\/p>\n
