\"Prince<\/p>\n

Run over 1,000 metres, the Prince of Wales Stakes is a Group 3 race taking place at Ascot Racecourse in Perth on the same date as Melbourne’s time-honoured Victoria Derby Day at Flemington <\/strong><\/a>and was previously held on the first Tuesday of November (Melbourne Cup Day) up until 1997. With a $200,000 prize purse, it attracts some of Western Australia\u2019s best sprinters.<\/span><\/p>\n

Starting out as a Principal Race, this race was upgraded to Group 3 status in 1979.<\/span><\/p>\n

This race serves as a good lead up for the Group 1 <\/span>Winterbottom Stakes <\/span><\/a>held during the Perth Summer Racing Carnival. Barakey won this race in 2013 a year after his Winterbottom win of 2012, while the last horse to do the double in the same year was Miss Andretti (2005).<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2021 the Prince Of Wales Stakes winner Elite Street won the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes next-up before a third in the Winterbottom. He also returned in 2022 to complete the Group 3 Northam Stakes – Roma Cup double, while the 2021 Prince Of Wales Stakes runner-up Stageman finished second in that year’s Winterbottom results.<\/p>\n

The 2022 Prince Of Wales Stakes form was franked with the second placegetter This’ll Testya winning the Group 3 Colonel Reeves next start before a third in that summer’s Winterbottom Stakes trifecta.<\/p>\n
