    2022 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner In Secret. Photo: Ultimate Racing Photos.<\/figcaption><\/figure>The Coolmore Stud Stakes is a Group 1 sprint down the iconic Flemington ‘Straight Six’ track held at HQ on the opening day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival – Victoria Derby Day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Derby Day runs on the Saturday prior to the Melbourne Cup<\/a>, which runs on the first Tuesday of November annually, so the Coolmore Stud Stakes date is traditionally either the last Saturday in October or first of November.<\/p>\n

    Offering $2 million in prize money and registered as the Ascot Vale Stakes, the Coolmore Stud Stakes is open only to three-year-olds and is run at set weights. It was originally a juveniles’ race for two-year-olds up until 1969 when Vain won the first edition of the race for three-year-olds.<\/p>\n

    Any three-year-olds that contested Sydney’s $20 million The Everest race<\/a> earlier in the spring may head south for a shot at the Coolmore Stud Stakes.<\/p>\n

    Plenty of star youngsters have won the Coolmore Stud Stakes including in recent years Sepoy (2011) and Sunlight (2018).<\/p>\n
