The Moonee Valley Fillies Classic is a Group 2 mile race for three-year-old fillies run and won at The Valley in late October each Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.<\/p>\n

The event forms part of the bumper Cox Plate Day program and offers $300,000 in total prize money.<\/p>\n

The fillies in the field face off at set weights and the Moonee Valley Fillies Classic serves as a potential lead-up to the Group 1 VRC Oaks<\/a> (2500m) at Flemington during November’s Melbourne Cup Carnival.<\/p>\n

Formerly run in the autumn as the Moonee Valley Oaks, the last filly to win both races as a three-year-old was Special Harmony who won the 2003 Crown Oaks before coming back the next autumn to win the 2004 MV Oaks (now MV Fillies Classic).<\/p>\n

The Moonee Valley Fillies Classic graduates previously raced at Caulfield in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas<\/a> (1600m) in November, a race the 2023 MV Fillies Classic winner Skybird ran third in, before the Thousand Guineas moved to the Caulfield Cup Day card in 2024.<\/p>\n

The 2025 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic winner Salty Pearl came via a lead-up fourth in the Thousand Guineas.<\/p>\n
