    Hong Kong flyer\u00a0Ka Ying Rising<\/strong>\u00a0($2) confirmed his status as the world\u2019s best sprinter with a dominant win by the well backed David Hayes trained visitor the\u00a02025 The Everest results<\/strong>\u00a0at Randwick, silencing doubters and delivering Hong Kong its biggest international racing triumph. Ridden just off speed by Zac Purton, the five-year-old charged down the front running Overpass on the home straight going on to beat the Ciaron Maher trained filly Tempted by a length with Maher also running third with Jimmysstar.<\/p>\n\n

Photo: Steve Hart.<\/figcaption><\/figure>The Everest is the richest turf race in the world with the unique buy-in sprint feature worth an unprecedented $20 million as of 2023. Inaugurated in 2017 the feature takes place at Royal Randwick Racecourse in late October as the key event of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.<\/span><\/p>\n

    It gained Group 1 status officially ahead of the 2024 edition which was won by Bella Nipotina.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Now part of a wider The Everest Carnival full of seven-figure races, The Everest is contested by 12 of the world’s fastest horses and takes place over 1200m as a weight-for-age race.<\/p>\n

    There are 12 spots in The Everest field with positions purchased by slot holders at a cost of $600,000 each. Those slot holders then select a star horse to represent them in the event, which is now recognised as one of the world’s most iconic horse races despite original concerns it would be seen as a race only for elitists.<\/p>\n

    Slots in this race can be traded, sold as shares or leased and give those in the mix a shot at taking out a first prize purse of $6.2 million!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    The opening two editions of The Everest race were won by Redzel before a new race record was set by the Chris Waller-trained Yes Yes Yes in 2019, the three-year-old defeating the older sprinters in brilliant fashion.<\/p>\n

    The Everest also serves as a key lead-up into Flemington’s Group 1 VRC Sprint Classic<\/a> (1200m), a double completed by Redzel in 2017. In 2019 the VRC Sprint Classic winner Nature Strip improved on a lead-up fourth in The Everest results.<\/p>\n

    Caulfield’s Group 3 The Heath 1100 Stakes<\/a> (1100m) in August may serve as a potential early lead-up for The Everest horses, a race won in 2016 by subsequent inaugural and dual The Everest hero Redzel. The 2021 The Heath 1100 winner Masked Crusader went on to run second in that year’s The Everest quinella.<\/p>\n

    In 2020 The Everest history was made with the previous year’s sixth placegetter Classique Legend returning to become the first The Everest favourite to win and hand Kerrin McEvoy with his third victory in the event.<\/p>\n

    The next year trainer Chris Waller won his second The Everest trophy this time with the favourite Nature Strip (2021) who saluted in the event at his third attempt.<\/p>\n

    Nature Strip attempted a title defence as the odds-on favourite in 2022 but only managed to run fourth behind the undefeated three-year-old Giga Kick who became the longest-priced The Everest winner in history<\/strong> at $21 odds.<\/p>\n

    The Everest results previously impacted the name of the $3 million Winners Stakes<\/a> race held on The Golden Eagle Day at Rosehill in late October. Each season the Winners Stakes was renamed in honour of the previous year’s The Everest winner up until 2024. From 2024 onwards the Winners Stakes will be known as the Russell Balding Stakes after the former Racing NSW chairman Russell Balding.<\/p>\n

    In 2024 Bella Nipotina became the first The Everest winning mare when beating home the 2022 winner Giga Kick in a tight finish.<\/p>\n

    Bella Nipotina (2024) then went on to become the latest runner to complete\u00a0The Everest \/ Russell Balding Stakes double<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    In 2025 Hong Kong sensational Ka Ying Rising became the first internationally trained The Everest winner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
